In its second major recall of a very young year, Mercedes-Benz is recalling roughly 324,000 of its GLE-Class and ML-Class SUVs over water damage that may result in an engine stall.
Affected vehicles and their model years are as follows:
2016 GLE300D
2016-18 GLE350
2016-19 GLE400
2016 GLE450
2016-18 GLE550E
2017-19 AMG GLE43
2016-20 AMG GLE63
2015 ML250
2012-15 ML350
2015 ML400
2012-14 ML550
2012-15 AMG ML63
In certain driving situations, water may accumulate in the wheel well of the spare tire and reach the fuel-pump control unit, which controls how much fuel is reaching the engine. If the fuel supply is interrupted, the engine may stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issues, dealers will inspect the vehicle for water intrusion, install a drain plug and replace the fuel-pump control unit, as necessary, for free. Mercedes will begin notifying owners Feb. 21, but those with further questions in the meantime can contact the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
