Movers and Losers: May's Top Sedans, Wagons and Hatchbacks
This is another list we’re expanding this month to include all midsize and full-size sedans, wagons and hatchbacks. That’s because there aren’t a lot of wagons and hatchbacks on the market, and the few we see sell well should get attention, too.
That said, nothing really impresses us on this month’s list. Impressive numbers from the Mazda5, VW Jetta and Hyundai Sonata could be due to their relatively high gas mileage. But that sure wouldn’t explain how the Chevy Impala and Toyota Avalon made the top 10.

Again, we break losers down by the total, then put models being turned over or phased out into a separate list. Things do not look good for Buick or the Ford Taurus. At least we know the Taurus will get a solid redesign within the next year.

Now for luxury sales. Performance sells, it seems, or at least some performance cars do. On one side you see the Mercedes-Benz C63, BMW M3 and Lexus IS F selling quickly, but on the other the Mercedes-Benz E63, BMW M5 and Audi S4 are languishing on lots. It seems it takes more than some fancy numerics to sell high-end performance. Otherwise, we’re not too surprised by either list.
