Mark your calendars, muscle-car fans. In exactly two months, GM will unveil the next Chevrolet Camaro at Detroit’s 982-acre Belle Isle island park on Saturday, May 16, a couple weeks before the Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix.

GM calls the car “all-new” and a “sixth-generation” Camaro. That suggests this won’t be an update to the 2010-15 version, which was refreshed for the 2014 model year. The automaker expects some 1,000 people to attend the all-day celebration, complete with Camaro-only parking, a Camaro museum and speedy rides in a 2015 Camaro Z/28 around the Belle Isle Grand Prix course. We’re guessing you won’t want to show up in a Ford Mustang.

Fans can register to attend the free event, with priority given to those who agree to bring their Camaros, at www.thecamarosix.com. The 2016 Camaro reveal will occur late in the day, and questions abound for one of the most anticipated introductions this year. Will GM go toe-to-toe with the Mustang by dropping in a turbo four-cylinder option? Will it close the roughly 200-pound gap in curb weight between the Camaro and its lighter rival? How much technology will the Camaro get from the seventh-generation Corvette? For those of you not at Belle Isle, stay tuned to Cars.com for all the details on May 16.
