Hyundai has taken the wraps off the 2024 Sonata’s extensive redesign that helps bring the sedan in lockstep with its other recently unveiled models, such as the 2024 Kona. It’s the first such redesign since the 2020 model year.

The exterior styling of the new eighth-generation Sonata is a radical departure from the 2023 model. The front fascia features a slim LED light bar, a reworked grille and wide-set headlights in the upper portion of the front bumper. Out back, the taillights incorporate an H-shaped light bar, while the rear bumper adopts a more aggressive design. N-Line models will come with a set of quad exhaust tips, 19-inch wheels and a rear spoiler.

Inside, the most notable change is right in front of you, where two 12.3-inch screens are housed in a curved display — a first for any Hyundai, according to the automaker. Most of the climate controls are now touch-sensitive, though the marque opted to retain physical knobs for the temperature settings. The steering wheel has also been redesigned, and the shifter has been relocated to the steering column to improve interior storage.

More details about the 2024 Sonata (including powertrain options, pricing and availability information), though the global model will make its debut on March 30. Currently, the 2023 Sonata has a starting price of $26,365 (all prices include destination) and the Sonata Hybrid $29,365. Hyundai might carry over the 2023 model’s engine lineup, which includes a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the SE and SEL trims; a 180-hp, turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder in the SEL Plus and Limited variants; a 290-hp, turbo 2.5-liter four-cylinder for the N Line trim; and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a 39-kilowatt electric motor for a combined output of 192 hp in the Sonata Hybrid.
