Our sources and spies have scored a twofer. According to our friends in the know, Ford’s brand-new, large-displacement, two-valve OHC 6.2-liter premium V-8, formerly known as the Boss V-8, is expected to find its way under the hood of several F-150 models — not just limited-edition specialty versions like the high-performance off-road pickup — and Super Duty models. The V-8 makes approximately 400 horsepower and more than 400 pounds-feet of torque, and it's expected to be an option on XLT and Platinum F-150 models for the 2011 model year. To back up this information, our stealthy spies caught a Platinum F-150 out driving with the 6.2-liter V-8's distinctive twin-pipe exhaust poking out the back. Check out those towing mirrors, too! We hear there are other trims running around testing the new engine, too. It appears Ford thinks a large-displacement V-8 gas engine still has merit and credibility with core truck buyers.
