Volkswagen will offer a more aggressive R-Line look as an optional package for its 2019 Arteon top-shelf sedan. VW will display the R-Line trim at the 2018 New York International Auto Show starting next week after unveiling the more deluxe new VW sedan at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show in February. The Arteon goes on sale in the fall, and the R-Line look — also offered on other VW models — will be an option for all trim levels at launch.

The appearance package is “performance-inspired,” says VW, and adds only sportier design elements, no additional performance. The exterior elements include a more aggressive front bumper with big, black-trimmed air intakes. It also adds a black rear spoiler and dark R-Line 19- or 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Inside, there is contrast stitching on the steering wheel and shift knob, paddle shifters, metal-look trim, stainless-steel pedal covers and stainless-steel door-sill plates with the R-Line logo. The interior also gets a black headliner, which seems to be required for all sporty design packages these days, though it can be a bit claustrophobia-inducing.
All Arteons in the U.S., including R-Line models, will be powered by a 268-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, mated to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional on all trim levels.
