CARS.COM — Everyone else is snapping up SUVs and pickup trucks like gas is gonna be cheap forever, so now’s your chance to get a near-new electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid for half the charge. A study of more than 2 million cars by automotive research website iSeeCars.com revealed that a “newly used” Nissan Leaf in some cases is going for less than $13,000 compared with its nearly $30,000 price tag on the dealer lot.
The Detroit News reported that prices on electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids that are 1 to 3 years old have “hit a sweet spot,” with the average price dropping an average of $3,830 – nearly 16 times the average price reduction on newly used gas-powered vehicles. That’s largely due to the abundance of used electrics and hybrids in stock as car buyers get accustomed to the persistently low gas prices of recent years.
