Tesla Model S after stopping Passat in Germany | Feuerwehr München via Facebook
CARS.COM —Tesla CEO Elon Musk says his company will take care of repairs for a Model S driver who put his pricey car – and himself – in harm’s way to save the life of a stricken driver, as well as to protect more lives on a German highway.
Musk took to Twitter after the event was reported by German outlet Munchen Merkur and picked up by Jalopnik to tweet: “Congrats to the Tesla owner who sacrificed damage to his own car to bring a car with an unconscious driver safely to a stop,” and then, “In appreciation, Tesla is providing all repair costs free of charge and expedited” with a link to the story.
According to the German report, Manfred Kick saw a Volkswagen Passat moving slowly and erratically in the left lane and when he pulled alongside in his Model S, saw the driver slumped over the wheel. He then pulled ahead and used his brakes to bring both cars to a stop and aided the driver until emergency personnel arrived. The stricken driver, likely to have suffered a stroke, survived. Damage to both vehicles was reported to be about 10,000 euro.
