As evidenced by the EV6’s selection as the Utility Vehicle of the Year in the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year competition in January, Kia knows how to make an appealing electric vehicle. In debuting a special edition of the EV6 during Monterey Car Week 2023, the automaker is showing it also knows how to celebrate. As far as we know, this is the first time a manufacturer has celebrated the award with a special edition — for the award.
North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (aka NACTOY) honors are bestowed by a panel of 50 jurists from print, digital and broadcast media outlets to recognize “excellence in innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction and value.”
Design is the only one of those traits Kia enhanced on the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year Limited Edition (to give it its proper, palaverous name), which sports the EV6’s available 77.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack and 320-horsepower, dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. It wears unique forest-green paint over a beige interior that Kia says “pays homage to classic performance vehicle styling combinations.” In addition to the special color combination, the interior features NACTOY medallions and a silhouette of the EV6 next to the shifter.
Otherwise, the special edition (a much easier thing to say) is a blend of features from the Wind and GT-Line trim levels. The black fender, body-side trim, and front and rear styling come from the Wind, while the GT-Line contributes luxury and tech features including 20-inch wheels, a moonroof, head-up display, 360-degree camera system and blind spot cameras. It also features forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, plus Kia’s Highway Driving Assist 2 semi-autonomous system that incorporates adaptive cruise control and active lane centering.
Kia will only produce 1,000 copies of the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year Limited Edition. Pricing will be announced closer to the start of sales later in the year.
