What’s New for the 2025 Toyota Corolla?
Toyota’s Corolla compact car continues to be offered in several flavors for model-year 2025: Gas and hybrid versions return, as do sedan and hatchback body styles. The big news for the 2025 Corolla is the addition of a sport-oriented FX special edition that replaces the 2024 model’s Nightshade trim for the sedan; top trim levels also get a larger, 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. The rest of the lineup, however, carries over for 2025.

Powertrain Specs and MPG
The Corolla sedan and hatchback use a 169-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 151 pounds-feet of torque; it’s paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The powertrain setup gets an EPA-rated 32/41/35 mpg city/highway/combined for the entry-level LE trim and 31/40/34 mpg for the rest of the line.
The Corolla Hybrid uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a total of 138 horsepower. It also gets a CVT sending power to the front wheels, and AWD is available on the LE and SE trims via a second electric motor that drives the rear wheels. Toyota claims the Corolla Hybrid is good for an estimated 53/46/50 mpg in the LE and XLE trims and 51/44/48 mpg for the LE with AWD, but official 2025 estimates for those trims are not yet available. With larger wheels, the FWD SE returns 50/43/47 mpg; the AWD version is rated at 47/41/44 mpg.
Tech Features
The 2025 Corolla comes standard with tech features such as an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Wi-Fi hot spot capability. Notable available tech features include a larger 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless device charging and a JBL premium stereo system.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on the 2025 Corolla sedan and hatchback. This safety suite includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, lane-centering steering, road-sign recognition and automatic high beams. Blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert systems are available.
The 2025 Toyota Corolla sedan and hatchback haven’t yet been crash-tested, but the 2024 models earned Top Safety Pick status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
We still have yet to perform a Car Seat Check for the 2025 Corolla, but in our test of the 2024 hybrid sedan, it earned mixed grades. Although the Corolla Hybrid’s Latch anchors were easy to find and use, the sedan’s fixed head restraints caused fit issues with our forward-facing car seat and booster.
Should You Buy a 2024 or 2025 Toyota Corolla?
Unless you’re interested in the sportier FX special edition or must have the newly available 10.5 inch touchscreen, opt for a 2024 Corolla to save a few bucks.
Overall, Cars.com’s reviewers think the Corolla is a sensible, no-nonsense choice for anyone looking for affordable, economical transportation. It also offers a lot of options for consumers interested in something on the sportier side or something that more benefits fuel economy.
