In 1945 J W Wakefield moved to Spartanburg from Columbia to reopen the Buick franchise which was closed during WWII . GM had closed many dealerships at that time because there were not enough cars to go around as all the factories had been retooled for the war effort. With him came his partner and son Bill. Together they began what is now the oldest dealership in Spartanburg.

Over the years, a Jeep, Opel and a DeLorean franchise were added yet later sold. The markets were up and down but Buicks were their mainstay. By the mid 50s, they had grown into a household name, and by the 70s their market share grew to almost 1 of every 5 cars sold. In 1956, Bill took the helm and has been an exemplary leader for many years. He was even named a Time Magazine Quality Dealer of the Year nominee in 1997.
Bill brought his son Jay into the action in 1984 and they have worked together ever since. In 1998, Pontiac and GMC were added to round out their product portfolio to offer all types of trucks and performance cars. Their success has only come with the help of many wonderful employees over the years. Many you can meet on these pages. They have stayed around because they enjoy helping customers with their automotive needs.

    This is my 3rd vehicle purchased in 3years. My sales person was great I told her what I was looking for and within a month I was signing papers. In other... words I love working with Wakefield Buick. The sales person did not pressure me at all.

    While I do not usually write reviews must say that Christine,my service advisor knows her business and is very professional. Wakefield is like a family.... You can talk to all there up to and including Jay Wakefield. It was so easy to schedule, understand what needed to be. done and feel comfortable all will happen. It did happen just as planned.

    Walked in and was greeted right away. Talked about my trade-in and the vehicle I was looking for. Prices were right on target and fair to where they were... during my research on line. They were very friendly and courteous through my the time there. Went over my new vehicle in great detail and answered all of my questions. Love my new GMC ride!!!
