Deceptive Business Practices

Buying a car from this dealership has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had! I bought a used car for my daughter, her first. The car looked good, and the Carfax was good. I purchased this vehicle as is, which I have been repeatedly reminded since then. After driving the vehicle twice, the EPC light came on. I had no clue what this meant, and after a google search, I decided to call Vic Bailey. The salesperson I spoke to was extremely rude, and told me I purchased this car as is, and it’s not their problem. He hangs up, then a few minutes later, calls back. He told me to bring it in, and they would look at the car, but this isn’t something they usually do. My dad took the car, where he was met by someone else who was rude! This person accused my dad of trying to get over on them. My dad said, he just wanted to make sure this Volkswagen was safe for his teenage granddaughter to drive, and we thought the place that services Volkswagen could help. After this run in, I contacted the GM, who copied the sales manager. He called, apologized, and told me to bring it in. He said they would run the diagnostic test for free. The light had gone off since then, so I told him if it came back on, I’d bring it back. A few days later, the check engine light came on. By this time, I had already read the negative reviews on this dealership. One in particular, stating this dealership had disabled his check engine light. I decided to take it to my mechanic, he ran the diagnostic. He said it was throwing a timing code. He checked the oil, and there was almost no oil in the car. He had to add three quarts. I called Mike back, told him about the car not having oil. He then told me, that they don’t service the cars that are being sold as is. I sent a screenshot of the service record I was shown. On the carfax, they said they serviced the car on 7/18/2023. I bought the car on 7/20. He replied by telling me to bring it in and they’d do a free oil change. He also told me I could trade it in. This place has terrible customer service, and deceptive business practices. I forgot to mention, I found a service record from the previous owner in the glove box. In February of this year, she took the car to Vic Bailey complaining of the same issues I’m experiencing. Car accelerating on its own and jerking. They said they repaired the issue by changing the oil and replacing the gas cap.

False expectation provided

Called Vic Bailey about removing the security lugnuts on the tires so they could be replaced at another place. Was told by personal to bring it by and they could do it quickly as an emergency basis. Got to the dealership and there was zero sense of urgency and the person who checked me in spent half his time at the service counter playing on his phone.

Great customer service, don’t buy a used car.

Bought a used car from this dealership, took it for a test drive and everything seemed fine. Bought the car and what do you know the check engine light came on while on the way home. It was an as-is car so I guess, it’s okay to sell a lemon? I took it back to be checked out by the dealership and they couldn’t seem to figure it out. I took it to my usual mechanic and they found the multiple problems almost immediately. Well now with repair costs more than the car itself i regret dealing with this dealership.

Best Experience Ever!

Last year we purchased a used car here but the car developed a problem right after taking it home. The dealership took the car back no questions asked. Last week we returned to purchase another used vehicle. Go see Bernie! You won’t be disappointed.

Jeff Brainard

The Salesman and Sales manager were very courteous and didn't play the typical sales games. It was a nice relief, after visiting several dealerships.

Great Experience at Vic Bailey VW!!

I was very impressed with the entire Vic Bailey team in Spartanburg, SC. Cory was the salesman I worked directly with and he was knowledgeable, understanding, informative, and patient as I made my decision and worked through various options. The entire staff was helpful and carried themselves in an extremely professional manner throughout our time in the dealership on a busy Saturday afternoon. The sales managers, Mike and Terry, were extremely helpful with information regarding the transfer of tags, insurance, and other items outside of the direct buying experience. Something that really stood out to me was that you could tell that the entire team viewed their customers equally, and that each one is important to them as individuals and the dealership as a unit. This is something that I did not experience at other, even VW, dealerships. This was my 2nd VW, and my familys 8th. We will definitely be making the drive from Hickory and Asheville to Spartanburg to visit Cory and the Vic Bailey team in the future!
