High White Honda Athens (Ohio) advertised a used 2020
High White Honda Athens (Ohio) advertised a used 2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E as having a clean Carfax with "no damage reported". That's not the same thing as "no damage", I learned the hard way. When I arrived for the test drive, it was pouring down rain, so I could not really get a close look at the exterior. The vehicle was clean inside and drove well, so I bought it. The next day, when I looked at it in clear weather, I could see poorly-done bodywork on the passenger doors: visible sanding marks, body filler lines, and orange-peel paint job with fisheyes. This damage was not disclosed by the dealer in the online listings or by the salesperson. I wonder how come the body damage was not "reported" to Carfax? Was it because Hugh White Honda did the shoddy quickie bodywork in their own shop and intentionally did not report it to Carfax? I wonder, because there was fresh body filler sanding dust in the door jambs on the passenger side. The salesperson claimed he was unaware of the body damage. I told the salesperson that I was disappointed and asked for a credit of $1,000 to compensate for the lack of full disclosure (not a lot to ask: it will cost more than $1,000 to re-do the bodywork). The salesperson said that the sales management refused to issue the credit, and it was up to the general manager to decide. No one in sales management or general management ever called me back and I never heard from salesperson Isaiah Mullins again. I wrote a complaint letter to the general manager of Hugh White Honda and sent copies to the owner/principal of the Hugh White Family of Dealerships and to American Honda in California. American Honda followed up with me by phone today, but they professed to be powerless to intervene since the dealers are independently owned...nice way to weasel out, American Honda! Gutless and not customer-centric. Apparently American Honda is content to have their dealers abuse their customers and Hugh White Honda is happy to take your money and sell their ethics for $1,000! I should also mention a very slow and disorganized "finance" person. It took almost three hours to finish writing me up, and I was paying cash! He tried to sell me a lot of useless add-ons as well. Why? Isn't that the job of a salesperson, not the clerk processing the paperwork? Horrible experience overall. I would shop at a corner "Buy Here - Pay Here!" lot before I purchased another vehicle from the ethically-challenged Hugh White Palace of Hondas with Undisclosed Damage.

The only thing I don't like is that you fill out a app
The only thing I don't like is that you fill out a app for approval on the site that lists their cars and you get approved, but it only is approved through manufacturer specifications. But the dealers hold their selves to higher standards, yet they are selling vehicles for manufacturers. I feel that the manufacturer and dealer should be on the same standards and honestly I don't feel you should have to put down payment on vehicles. Dealers add that on for extra profit. The car is being financed, so vehicle is bought paid in full from dealer.

DON'T BUY HERE. RIP OFF SALES FOLKS
Wow, what an underhanded car sales team and dealership! Bought a vehicle there and received the loan papers and they baited and switched the prices so we are paying twice as much for the vehicle for three times longer than we discussed! Rates were outrageous and I have excellent credit. Made the car loan for 7 years instead of three to make it appear the price was lower. Watch out for these rip-off artists. They should not be in business! DON'T BUY HERE!

Good car-buying experience
Salesman and Chiefs' fan Zachary was polite and patient without exception through a 5-day used vehicle purchase, including coming in on his day off to finalize the sale. Because of the pandemic, I emailed him early on, listing my social distancing needs; sales experience expectations; model, approximate year, and vehicle features needed; as well as trade-in vehicles’ features. The first CR-V he showed me was the one I purchased. Negotiations were kept respectfully short, and I think the dealer and I were both satisfied with the outcome. There were some hitches in paperwork—for example, the first loan document included the dealer’s initially proposed trade-in amount instead of the negotiated amount—but I believe these were unintentional mistakes, and they were remedied with haste and without complaint. You might save a bit more by driving to a high-volume Columbus dealer—I don't know—but if you prefer shopping in Athens, as I do, I recommend giving Hugh White a try.
