Do not buy from Carmax! EVER!

We have had nothing but issues since making our purchase in March. Our new car was in the shop for close to 3 weeks out the first 4 we had it. When I called over the first issue (shimmy/bounce when driving over 45 mph and the steering felt like it needed more fluid) since it was only the next day after purchase I wanted to take it back in but they couldn't get us in for a week. I had to take the morning off work since their service department is not open on the weekends (super convenient right) amd the girl told me it needed a "small part " for the steering wheel and an alignment. Ok whatever , let's do this. well then the tell me they have to order the part...great! So I had to make an appointment to come back (and take even more time off work to do so). I finally get back to work and decide to read the paper and they have to order a new rack n pinion !! seriously ? A small part in my steering wheel lady? This is a major fricking part ! how did this get past their inspection? I was ready to return it right then and there but read online it takes weeks to get your down payment back from these guys and I cannot be without a car in addition to my down payment so we just let them have the car to fix it and they had it for just over a week. A week later some light came on I dont honestly remember what it was but it had something to do with the transmission so AGAIN have to take time off work to get in in to be seen. this time they have it for a week and a half! we also pointed out that we noticed they had appeared to have fix a windshield leak with house caulking amd asked to fix that too which they claimed took the longest. they removed some of the caulk n called it good. they sent it to AAMCO and they replaced some sensor amd did not return the old part as we requested (want to make sure they are actually doing what they say ) my car was Filthy! trash shoved in the pockets in the doors, straw wrappers and just dirt an stuff inside and out. They put over 60 miles on it and my car had a full tank when I dropped it and less than half when I picked it up. (pretty sad since I made sure to refill the rental tank before returning) amd now my driver door chirps like a bird whenever closing it, called them about all of this and all they wanted was for me to come by to fill up my tank (yeah take more time off work for a half a tank of gas) then we went a few months with no major issues other than the spare key fob not working after the first month amd they will not replace. I went to get my first oil change there today and it went ok, only missed a couple hours of work and went on my way. I pick my son of from school excited to drive to Tampa for his very first concert! My remote start won't work (ugh here we go again) them the dreaded check engine light comes on .....wow! I am panicking because we are on a time crunch to get to Tampa, so I call so I can see what to do ...and to make a long story short they want to charge me over $80 diagnostic to see what's going on amd oe habe to wait until Monday. (it's now Friday late afternoon) So my car was fin until you had it and you want to charge me to look at it ? my car door is still messed up from last time it was there, so I have no doubt it's something they did. I am so beyond frustrated right now. I am driving to Tampa hoping my new car doesn't break down. PLEASE DONT EVER BUY A CAR FROM CARMAX SANFORD, PLEASE!!

Good experience

I recently purchased a car from CarMax in Sanford. My salesman, Nyron Richards was the BEST! I highly recommend you asking for him when you are there. He will take good care of you. :)

My Not So Fun Experience

I was looking for a specific car, and originally found one in another state. My sales associate was Gail Carpenter. She had it shipped for me. When it arrived, she told me that the navigation system was set to Canada, and the AC seats did not work. They took it to the dealer to repair, where it stayed for 5 days. I told her that I did not feel comfortable spending my entire savings on a car. She said that "all cars have issues" and kept saying I could return it within 5 days. That made me feel worse, especially when she kept pushing the car on me. I asked her to find a similar one, but she did not, so I again had to do it myself. I gave up on her not responding, and spoke to the manager, Ed. He apologized, refunded the shipping, and waived the shipping on the new car. He asked if I was okay still working with Gail, and I told him I'd rather not, since she made me uncomfortable. He then said that it would be fine, he'd leave me with Gail, but be there "every step of the way." She then told me when the first car was ready, and I asked her for a report of what the dealer repaired, as Ed suggested. She gave me a report that only showed the navigation system. When I asked about the seats, she said "they work now." I asked for a report on the seats, and she never replied FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I got a notice that the second car was shipped, but never that it arrived. I called the store, and they pretended like it had just gotten there, when it had probably been sitting around. I had been waiting on it, since my car was totaled. They told me that they would check it, which instilled little confidence, since the first one went through a "125 point inspection," yet didn't work when it arrived. I was never updated on its condition. When I arrived, Ed was not even there--he had gone for the day. I don't know why he said he would be involved, when he was too busy to ever help after my initial call to him. I had to meet with Gail, who seemed annoyed. She kept saying that they were nice enough to waive my shipping cots, but I thought that was not going above and beyond, that was just common sense to fix their mistake. She refused to compromise on price or even adding warranty, since the last car had issues. I ended up buying the car, since I wanted it and figured I wouldn't take it out on Carmax, but I am concerned about it. I couldn't afford their warranty. I would caution others not to buy a 2016 blue Chevy Malibu premier, as it was the one with issues.

Terrible Sales Person (P.J.)

Just went to test drive some cars here, and had an unpleasant experience. The salesman that was assigned to me (P.J.) had no personality whatsoever. Very awkward, and slightly rude. Very short and "robotic like." Made me very uncomfortable. I've never had anyone trying to sell me a car tell me not to touch the radio or A/C while driving. After test driving 2 vehicles with this gentleman, he went inside to put up the tag and never even asked how I liked the cars, or if I would like to see anything else, or even a goodbye. If I ever go back, I will make sure to ask for someone different. (Carmax of Sanford)

Easy to buy here

The salesperson could read my mind! Finances were easy to set up. And I had plenty of time to shop around for financing. Time with car on road good also liked having no pressure return policy. Master technicians are very friendly and patient with customers.

Poor service

I had an appointment at the Sanford Carmax at 10 a.m. to have my truck appraised. I received confirmation from an associate that he would be there. When I got to the dealership at exactly 10 a.m. I was told, "Sorry, XXXX is not here yet. He should be here 'soon.' " I told the attendant that I was there for a an appraisal and that I had an appointment and he responded, "Oh, I am sorry. We have no buyers here now. It will be at least 15-20 minutes until they could start the process." . . . So let me get this straight: I drove all the way from Oviedo to make my appointment, and when I get there neither my representative nor my "buyer" is there to do what they said they would??? The only thing the attendant would offer was, "You can leave the vehicle with us, or come back later." All the while there are 5-10 associates just standing around doing nothing. Poor. Awful.

Efficient and friendly, with great car selections

Came in there on Thursday September 24th at 2:30 pm with my old clunker to get appraised and to purchase a used car. Was expecting to be a very long process, but was out by 5;30 with a smile. My car dealer was Greg, who was overly friendly and was patient with my decisions. He did a really good job showing me what I was looking for, price wise, and what was best for my liking. I wound up getting a solid deal on a 2012 Chevy Cruze. Carmax is very customer friendly, and very efficient with a nice variety of vehicles. Glad I went here to get my car.

Quick and Easy

Paid cash for a 2007 Explorer. Price was good. New tires and battery. After the test drive, the whole buying process only took 20 minutes. As I did not trade in a vehicle I was stuck there with 2 cars. They had someone follow me home in my new car so I could get both home without having to pay for a cab. Top notch. Dane was excellent.
