My wife inquired about a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta and received a response from Brian on 6/8 indicating the vehicle was still available. He said he would... be happy to answer any questions. My wife responded on that same day explaining specifically that we had a budget of 4,000 for the vehicle price with the understanding that we would need to pay taxes, tags, and fees. She wrote “Is that price possible on this vehicle?” (10:25 AM). She received a response on 6/8 at 7:23 PM from Paul who said, “just under 4600 out the door.” Paul and Brian both were involved in the communication. My wife drove up from our house in Airville to Auto One the next afternoon with my daughter to test drive the car. Paul wasn’t there and Brian introduced my wife to Mike and said that he would be working with us. They liked the car. I made the journey with my wife that evening from Airville back up to Auto One in Lancaster — and I test drove the car. It needed little things — a headlight was out, a wiper was bad. Mike was very helpful and said he’d have those taken care of. We came in Friday, June 12th, ready to buy. Mike had all the paperwork complete. When we came to the last page, the sales prices was over $6,100. I said, ‘this is a problem.” We showed Mike the email exchange and he went into the back room. From that point until we left, we waited at least a total of 40 minutes. Paul eventually came back to the dealership (he wasn’t there at the beginning of this process)— explained how busy he was, said he didn’t read the email carefully, said he was trying to take care of his family after being off for the COVID shutdown. He told us that he wasn’t going to “take the hit” for that — but offer to pay us $20 for gas. The finance manger came out and said he spoke to the owner and he would give us $200 off the price. We left upset. Mike was polite and respectful. Although Paul apologized, he made excuses and he was very rude to us. We were given a price in writing — and then they refused to stand by it. I was very disappointed — felt disrespected and wasted a lot of time. It was clearly an admitted mistake of Auto One’s employee — but there was a lack of willingness to stand by what he said. This calls me to question whether the management would be willing stand by anything their employees said — and causes me to question the integrity of this organization. I wouldn’t trust them.
It became obvious that AutoOne was more comfortable using their own financing to complete the sale rather than using my credit union. This was made a bit... more difficult by the fact that I lived 2 hours from the dealership, meaning I had to make an extra trip since they wanted the check-in-hand from the bank rather than allowing me to take the car based on my bank's guarantee. That was annoying, but I understand where they're coming from. Mike Diaz was fantastic through the buying process, answering all my questions and leveraging text and e-mail to work through everything so it was a seamless process. What REALLY set Mike apart was the following: after I took delivery, I found that somehow the previous owner's dog had eaten through two of the rear seat belts. They didn't catch it, I didn't catch it and the State of PA didn't catch it when they inspected it. AutoOne could easily have told me "tough luck" but instead worked out a deal with me where they'd cover the cost of the new belts while I would pay for shipping and do the installation myself. They sent a check immediately and everything is good as new (though I wouldn't recommend doing the MINI Clubman replacement yourself. WAY more involved than you'd expect for the center rear). Thank you Mike for your great service and to Kenny and the AutoOne team for being fair and easy to work with!
I knew that I wanted - another Lexus SUV, so I put in my "wish list" and Adam found the PERFECT Lexus RX 350 for me and had it brought in from New York....... and in my favorite color GOLD! Before the purchase, I asked for the CARFAX and SERVICE RECORDS and they showed and emailed me all of them and all of the details of the records. Luckily for me, I have known the owners, Steve and Chris Rupe, for over 35 years, and I know they are very honest people so this decision was easy for me. In addition, I felt comfortable as Adam discussed details of the car with me prior to my purchase. He always called me back when he said he would and was excellent at follow up on any of my questions. After the sale, a light came on in my new/used car. I called Adam and he said it was due to my tires not having equal pressure. I was to take my car back to where I purchased the tires and have them equally inflate them. Sure enough, the light went out! The point: the Sales Staff not only knows how to sell; they also know the cars they sell! Yesterday, I took my car back for my FREE oil change. YES, one gets 2 free oil changes per year plus a winter and a spring FREE check up if you are in their ELITE maintenance plan. Not sure what I did except purchase a car from them to get this. I was totally blown away with this FREE service that came with my purchase! I highly recommend Auto One!
