BMW Portland is Terrible

Service department takes one week to change the oil. The car has been sitting for nearly a week and still isn't completed. Why not just offer the appointment on the day you can do the work

Used BMW and service seekers beware

I would not recommend buying a used car from BMW Portland or utilizing their service department. I purchased a used 528xi from BMW Portland 2+ years ago and it has been nothing but trouble. Within a few weeks the battery needed to be replaced, followed by the starter. It has been in for service due to not starting or various warning indicators 5 times in the last 2 years. Recently it would again not start and I was advised it was likely the starter (which BMW Portland replaced 2 years ago) - when we contacted BMW Portland they replied that the starter they installed was 4 days past warranty and they wouldn't honor parts/repair. )The car's hardly been driven since they replaced the starter). Now the service department is not returning phone calls. Used BMW and BMW service seekers beware!

Felt duped by service advisor

I started bringing my new 328 in to BMW of Portland several years ago, to have them manage the maintenance/warranty work. Right away one of their ‘service advisors’ talked me into buying a very expensive maintenance package that was to kick in once my warranty expired. He knew my driving habits (very low miles) and that I was retired and this is important because this maintenance package will go to 100k miles BUT expires two years after your warranty expires, so if you don’t drive a lot it will not pencil out to be worth the cost.. This was absolutely not explained to me, despite me adamantly asking him to tell me everything that I’d need to know in order to make a truly informed decision. He also told me it would cover a brake change, but this was not true! He never told me anything whatsoever about the brakes needing to be at some predetermined depth, which is quite small, before they will change them, he simply told me it would cover a brake change. It was based on that information that I decided to purchase the package. Then as my car was reaching 60k miles I brought it in for the last oil change I’d be able to get under the maintenance package, which, by the way, you’re only allowed one oil change for around every 12k miles, and I was then told that I still have 25-40k miles left on my brakes! The ‘service advisor’ said it all depends on ‘how you drive your car’! But I’ve never in my life heard of a set of brakes lasting for a hundred thousand miles no matter how gingerly one drives the car! So now, with only two months left on this maintenance package I have received the last service work on it and it will not included a brake change. I feel completely duped, and believe I was lied to in order to upsell me a maintenance package that I most certainly would not have purchased had the truth been told. Other than that, my other complaint regarding BMW of Portland is that on one of my very first service visits they wrecked my car and I didn’t have it for a month or so while it was being repaired. Other than those two pretty significant issues they’re standard for a dealership. I’ll be taking my car to a local BMW shop in my neighborhood where twice now I’ve taken my car in for a minor little issue which they happily fixed and would not allow me to pay anything for the help. That business has earned my loyalty. BMW of Portland has failed to treat me as a valued customer, therefore I cannot recommend and will never use again.

Next Stop Sunshine State

I recently came into BMW Portland uncertain if I was actually going to purchase a new car. That changed as soon as I saw and test drove a beautiful 2017 convertible, and I knew I had to do it. This was my first time buying a new vehicle and, Duane and Jean made the transaction relatively painless. The dealership itself is lovely and my cousins accompanying me were more than happy to play video games and sit in the massage chair while the adults signed paperwork. 10/10 would recommend BMW Portland to anyone looking for a great buying experience. Thank you Duane and Jean for my new convertible! She’s so dreamy. Can’t wait to head to Florida with the top down this summer! -Andrea

Fraudulent mandatory $1000 registration fees

Purchased a CPO 2017 BMW 330i from this dealership last November. I'm from California and for some reason, this dealership told me I had to pay a flat rate of $1000 for the registration fee. I have purchased many used vehicles out of state and never have I been billed that much for registration. When I questioned the fee, the salesman told me it's a mandatory fee that they have to charge and that if the actual registration costs less, they will refund me the difference. What follows is the dumbest series of events: 1. Even though I am paying the Oregon dealership a $1000 registration fee, I was still required to get the vehicle inspected, smogged, and had to mail those documents back to the dealership. 2. In the time I was waiting for my registration, the temp plates expired twice so I had to request two more temp plates from the dealer which they mailed me. They then billed me $50 each for those temp plates. 3. After a couple months, I finally receive the registration and invoice breakdown. Total bill: $955 with a late registration penalty totaling almost $300. 4. I'm then told by the finance manager it was my fault for taking too long to send in the vehicle inspection and smog THAT I WAS FORCED TO PAY $1000 FOR YOUR DEALERSHIP TO HANDLE. 5. When I told the finance manager that the salesperson was the one that emailed me stating the $1000 registration fee was mandatory, I was told to contact the salesman. What a great dealership experience! From the very beginning and on multiple occasions, I had requested that I handle the registration myself. Using the CA DMV registration calculator, I calculated owing about $400-500 for the registration fees. Do not let this dealership force you into a flat rate $1000 registration fee. Cherry on top, the dealership uses stock photos for vehicles they have listed that don't actually have some of the features (blacked out kidney grills, window tints, HID headlamps).

Go somewhere else

Bought a brand new X3 in September and less than 6 months later a yellow light appeared on my dash. Called the service department to get more information since this is the first BMW I’ve purchased. Spoke to Joe who decided to degrade me and speak down to me because I asked questions about it. Not sure if he was having a cause of the Monday’s but people spend lots of money on BMWs and was curious why now I need to take my car with less than 4000 miles on it to get an oil change when I shouldn’t be taking it in until 10,000 miles. I asked him to not talk to me in a degrading way which he continued to and instead told me every customer loves him instead of apologizing. Spoke to the manager Rob who doesn’t care whatsoever what his employees do or say. Probably why when I asked Joe to transfer me he was very happy to. I’ll be taking my car to the other BMW dealership in Beaverton moving forward. This dealership sucks.

Worked with Eric Dobson....great guy

My wife and I went to checkout an X5 Eric kindly introduced himself and showed us the SUV. He honestly answered all our questions and explained in details what we wanted to know. Good thing Eric was there to show us the high-tech gadgets I'm old school. I would rate Eric I would rate Eric a 10 stars and recommend to all to work with him.

Fantastic experience

Big thank you to Will @ BMW of Portland, service department. During these tough times, he went above and beyond to help me with a water pump service for my 2014 BMW X3. Despite the car being (just) out of CPO warranty, Will worked with BMW of NA to make sure they covered the bill and kept me up to date through the process. I have never worked with him before, but it was awesome to see someone that took the time to listen to my problem, and go WAY above and beyond to acommodate me during these tough times. An absolute A

The Best

Portland BMW has consistently gone above and beyond to negotiate exceptional used car deals with me. I worked with Greg Zuccarello to buy a 2018 M2, my dream car. From start to finish, Greg was personable, reasonable, and negotiated masterfully on my behalf. His communication and professionalism were top notch. I will definitely work with him in the future.
