    Where to start, hmmm. Well, I'll start by prefacing my review with the fact that over the 20 years I have lived in Wilmington, I have visited the BMW dealership here many, many times (all of which were when it was still Schaeffer BMW). I'll admit that most times I did visit the lot (especially when I was younger) I was just "window shopping" and really just admiring most of the "out of reach" models. But, there were also quite a few times I was actually in the market for a new car when I visited the lot. No matter the circumstance, I was never impressed with the overall feel I got from the salespeople. Rarely was I ever approached, and if I was, I got the strong feeling that I was being brushed off or I was "wasting the salesperson's time". Almost as if I was never taken seriously as a prospective buyer. In fact, I got this feeling so much that a few years ago when I was in the market for my last car, I traveled over two hours to Raleigh to visit the BMW dealership there instead. I had pretty much written off Schaeffer BMW as a dealership to never do business with. This all changed for me when Schaeffer BMW was sold to a group out of SC recently and renamed to BMW of Wilmington. I had just started the process of shopping around for my next car, being that I had 5 months left on my current lease. Unbeknownst to me that the dealership had just changed ownership, I took a ride over to the lot on a rainy Saturday to take a look at a couple M235i's that I saw in their inventory online (I had researched thoroughly online, but wanted to see the car in person). Oddly enough, when I arrived I was actually greeted (odd because in past years I could count on two fingers how many times I had actually been acknowledged by staff while on this lot). Immediately the salesperson, Brian Smith, made me feel like I was actually important, and not like I was an inconvenience to his day. Immediately I could tell he was passionate about his job and about cars. And not only cars, but BMW's in particular. His intricate knowledge showed out almost right away. I made it abundantly clear to Brian right from the get go that I was NOWHERE near ready to buy or lease a car and that I just wanted to see the M235i in person. This information didn't prevent him at all from showing me the car, going through almost all of the features and finer points of the car, and even going for a test drive (Not to mention the one I test drove was fully loaded and well out of my price range). Keep in mind that at this time I was 5 whole months away from the end of my current lease (which was not a BMW, which meant no "pull ahead" program was possible). Maybe I'm just simple, but to me this spoke volumes about the kind of professional he is. After that Saturday visit (September 12th, 2015 to be exact) Brian kept in touch and followed up which led to a plan for me to special order an M235i once the dealership got an allocation for another one. This would give me a month or two of time before I could order it, and another two months before the car came in, which would have been perfect timing almost for the end of my current lease. I won't go into the finer details of the deal, but basically he and his new gm worked such a great deal that I wound up leasing an M235i exactly a month from the date I test drove it (yes, even with 4 months left on my current lease). The whole process was as easy and painless as I have ever experienced while buying/leasing a new car (for the record, this is my 8th car, 5th lease). I can't say enough about Brian and his professionalism as well as his passion for cars and the brand he is representing. From initial contact all the way to the signing on the dotted line and even after the sale, I cannot be any more satisfied with my experience. I'm pretty positive that as BMW keeps making cars I like (and can afford haha), I won't be going anywhere else in the future for a new car.

    I called this dealership since I live 2 hours away to tell them I wanted to purchase a car they had. I was prepared to purchase at that moment. The woman I spoke with said she'd have someone call me back. After a few hours and no return call, I called back. Same thing; someone would call me back. I never heard back so I got in my car the next day to go buy. However, once I arrived they had the car pulled aside for someone else to come look at it. I was there with cash and ready to go but they wouldn't sell me the car until the other person turned it down. Unfortunately, after waiting hours for the other person to arrive they sold it to him. Word of advice, don't call and expect someone to call you back!

    I was recommended by an acquaintance to see service advisor Greg Mays for a problem I was having with my '08 BMW. He spent the time with me to learn what had happened & then met with Service Manager Larry Demanovich on my behalf. I heard back from Greg within 24 hours with a very fair resolution to my problem. All in all, a very positive experience and handled in a professional way.

    I made an online inquiry through Cars.com and got an immediate contact from Tom Walsh at BMW of Wilmington and another from Debra Spears at their customer care center. Arranged to meet him (Tom) early the following morning. We were very pleased with the service provided by Tom and his sales manager, Joe Wade. They were both very professional while at the same time maintaining a pleasant and personable sales experience. We would gladly do business with this team again.

    Go anywhere but here to buy an automobile. They do not care for you-- even the next day--after you buy a brand new car. Mr. Schaeffer, the owner, does not call you back or respond to your emails. Go elsewhere this place is the worst place ever for customer service beyond day one-the sell. My new car was damaged the day we purchased it, did not notice the damage until I got home. I immediately called the salesman, brought it in the next day and they were to busy to look at it; so had to bring it in two days later and then they refused to fix it...the car had 15 miles on it too!!! Be smarter than me, go anywhere to buy a car but Schaeffer BMW in Wilmington...

    We had a horrible experience with another dealer. Charlie and John at Schaeffer waited until 7:30 for us to drive from Myrtle Beach. When we arrived, we were treated like a queen. The knowledge of the sales staff was superior. But more importantly, the way we were treated was amazing. You cannot get service like that anymore. If you want to buy a car, you can go anywhere. If you want an unforgettable experience, shop at Schaeffer.

    In December I brought my 2013 in for service. It was about 300 or so miles early so I was told it could not be serviced yet. I asked for fluid to be topped and that I was out of windshield fluid. I was told this was taken care of. When making our holiday trip to NY it snowed and we had a lot of salt on the road. When I went to use the windshield wipers, there was no fluid. It took awhile to find a gas station and when the attendant checked the fluid it was bone dry. We were then told that if and when it is brought in for service, we would receive a loaner (we are both physicians and it is important that we both have cars) when we leased the vehicle we were told there would never be a problem regarding loaners..even if one had to be rented from a local rental company. Just tried to make an apt for service and BMW Schaeffer said that is not true and they had no loaners. Arrogant, ignorant and incompetent people to say the least. Terrific when you want to purchase or have a paid service done but otherwise go out of your way to go somewhere else. We also have a Lexus and have never had a days worth of trouble for service or anything else..they cater to your every need. Dr. and Mrs. Barton Schneyer

I'm afraid I cannot comment on the washer fluid incident, as we have no record of the vehicle having been serviced during that timeframe. Regarding the loaner, it is my belief that the sales team at a competing dealership, where you chose to purchase your vehicle, may not have managed your expectations well. Our loaner policy is to provide alternate transportation on a first-come, first-served basis regardless of the type of service. There are a finite number of cars in the fleet.     I called about a car. Three times people have called me. I politely told the first person that I decided on another car. They have continued to call me and e-mail me. The last woman who called asked me if it was a good time and I politely told her no , I had just had surgery and she proceeded to just hang up on me. Rude. This experience does not impress me.
