Chevrolet is GM’s mass-market brand, and it has more models spanning more uses than the other three U.S. brands that survived the company's 2009 bankruptcy. A decade later, it became an epicenter of GM’s decision to drop passenger cars in favor of SUVs, which are more profitable.
Recent SUV introductions have resurrected old nameplates in the form of the mid-size Blazer and subcompact Trailblazer, which join the subcompact Trax, compact Equinox and three-row Traverse in Chevrolet’s car-based SUV lineup. The brand still has two truck-based, full-size SUVs in the Tahoe and Suburban, as well as traditional pickup trucks in the Silverado and Colorado.
On the car side, Chevrolet’s performance heritage lives on in the Camaro and Corvette sports cars, the latter getting a dramatic redesign for its eighth generation (C8) that moved the Corvette for the first time to a mid-engine platform. More practical offerings include the mid-size Malibu, all-electric Bolt EV and Spark subcompact.
