I bought a used Ford F150 extended cab pickup for my son's first truck. I wasn't expecting too much, as I had never been a Ford driver, I was certainly shocked by what that truck turned out to be! My son loved it, his friends loved it, I loved it. We all loved that truck! In the end, that Ford F150 saved my son's life, it was in a wreck that everyone expected would have fatalities. But that Ford F150 drove away, and my son was unharmed - a miracle and the best truck ever! I seriously believe it was the quality of truck he was driving, if it had been any other vehicle other than the Ford F150, the outcome would not have been so miraculous.

Bought this truck new at the end of the model year and has been reliable. has been comfortable too. Only have single bench seat. Paint remains good. Only problem has been with massive rusting on underbody mostly due to being kept near lake.

1999 Ford F-150 4.2, 2WD, single cab. Lightweight and solid, handles more like a large sedan than pickup. Tows in excess of listed capacity every few months and definitely works harder than it was intended to hauling loads, taking 300+ mile trips, flying down unpaved back roads or simply leading the pack down the interstate at 90mph. Over 230,000 miles and still just as reliable as it was age 2. Drives straight, no squeaks or rattles. Keep up on your scheduled maintenance and don't ignore repairs; this little truck will continue to work and play just as hard as you do.

155k Miles in the Rustbelt and Still Going Strong

When this generation F150 came out, it was the first truck that wasn't shaped like a brick and also had a decent interior. The V8s are great engines and the 4x4 system is good enough to drive exclusively on soft-sand beaches for two summers straight (I know b/c I did this!) Like any older vehicle, parts start to wear as the age (and to a lesser extent mileage) start to add up. However, this truck is pretty easy to work on and all of the major components (engine, transmission, etc.) work well. I would recommend an F150 to anyone who wants a good blend of performance, value and great ownership community. There are so many folks who own these that you can find videos online for replacing anything. Parts are cheap too!

Bought my 1999 F-150 Lariat with 299,000kms on it in August 2015. It was owned by one family since new and dealer-maintained regularly. It drives like a car, but has tons of power to tow my bass boat. In the past year and a bit I had to replace the ignition coils ($600) and fuel pump ($780), but other than that, no problems at all.

Mine is a V-6 five speed. She is about to roll 300,000 miles. Interior and exterior wise she looks like a 90,000 mile vehicle. I have put shocks on her and she needs stabilizer bushings. The mileage has never been as good as I would like. About 16.5 mpg on the road. But 300,000 miles is a long walk. I give her a solid five stars.

Bought this truck at 3 years old and 36,000 miles. Now is 16 years old with 200,235 miles. Very reliable during her service life with a few repairs needing a Saturday to deal with. At truck's peak got 19mpg with a flat bed cover. V6 a bit noisy when under load but strong engine. Cabin very comfortable, even after 13 years of driving, no problems with the seat, seatbelts, or controls. A few complaints, though: 3 of the 6 exhaust manifold outlets rusting out with no way to repair save replacement (very difficult to work on the OHV V6). Also power steering during turns sounds like a relief valve venting, can hear hissing and has done that all her service life. Overall best vehicle I have ever owned and am looking for another Ford F-150 in the near future (need a backseat for family now).

Fantastic vehicle, has been an honor and pleasure driving this vehicle miles and miles across country, up mountain roads, through mud and New England snowstorms. Servicing costs are standard with most trucks, the older they become the more it cost you. No huge problems, if you think a $1500.00 service cost is expensive then don't buy a truck. At the 15 year point and 155,500 miles unexplainable problems start to occur. She won't start after driving for an hour. Just sitting in the parking lot, all electrical works but no engine turn over. Towed to the garage same problem, busy garage- next day she starts up no problems found, and they checked everything plus rechecked after I asked them about certain parts-nothing. Another time drove for 15-20 minutes hauling stuff to dump, parked, 5 mins later she won't start -nothing. Towed to the garage, off the tow truck she starts up? My brother -in- law is a mechanic and was on site when this happened tried everything with nothing working. But other than that a very good vehicle. Now she will be used for farm work, not reliable enough to risk going on the highway and getting stuck in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday and no cell phone reception.
