Bought this car second hand with a salvage title! I have it now for 3.5 years. I have 55k mile on it. Runs great. Since it was salvage I had less expectation... but it turned out a greate reliable car! I had cross country trip with this car. So far I just changed breaks once and regular oil services. The only thing, it does not have as much power for uphill, dont know it is a focus thing or small car thing!

At a mere 3 months of age, the car made some odd noises, and soon died completely in an intersection. Roadside assistance came in handy, though I surely didn't expect to need it for a brand new car! Two months in the shop and a new motor later, it still makes questionable noises. I took it for a 500 km trip yesterday, and just to make life interesting, one tire mysteriously deflated almost to empty, then was fine after. Dealer thus far refuses to replace vehicle. Another long trip coming up shortly. Really wonder if it's going to make it or not.

This car is amazing. It has more internal space than any of the Volvo, Audi, BMW and Subaru Wagons, its comfortable, has a great handling and is very practical. A beautiful European design. Some people complain thatthe new Focu sold in Europe is better. Ford Europe actually made is shorter and wider, not necessarily a good thing. This is a winning design and can be bought for 1/2 the price of any of its competitors. A sure bet.

Excellent car for traveling

by from Wichita, KS on July 18, 2007

I bought the car new a year ago, and about 90% of the driving I do in it is long-distance. I put about 16,000 miles on it in the year I have owned it and I do not regret buying it.

I, being in the economy class as far as cars go decided that I would pick the ford focus because it is based on a rally design and it has a bit of bang for the buck appeal. I bought the model, much to my chagrin, without ABS because I could not afford it at the time. The second day that I had the car I was driving on the freeway a car came to a sudden stop in front of me. I braked hard and began to fear that I would lose traction. I DID in fact lose traction, but to my astonishment I maintained complete control of the car. I love the way this thing handles and would recommend it to anybody who has a taste for handling and quickness to jump out of the corner.

I bought this car new in 2006 and have over 120k miles on it now. It's the ZX4 with a manual transmission. The car is zippy and handles well and has been fairly reliable, with just a few small issues. First, the power steering rack started leaking last year. I replaced it myself (not really that hard) for about $200. It also started developing a ticking sound from the intake manifold that turned out be some goofy flaps Ford used in there. I had to replace the entire manifold. Again, the did the work myself, but it was a pain in the but and the manifold cost around $250. Also had to replace the clutch master cylinder a few years ago. Cheap part, easy to fix. However, that has really been the extent of repairs. I've replaced struts, shocks, plugs, changed the transmission oil, regular oil changes, and motor mounts. Car starts and runs great and has good power. It is a little noisy on the highway and the seats could use some lumbar support. But, for my use the car has been great and will probably run for another 100k.
