"best car I've owned"
This car is the funnest car that me and my wife have ever had. My mom just gave us a 2004 Avalon and we both really dont want it. The aurora is such a funner car all the way around. But out of respect we will have to sell the aurora and keep the avalon. The avalon is very boring and generic compared to the aurora.

Don't keep it very long
I purchased my 2001 Aurora 4.0 used with 40,000 miles on it 4 years ago. This was my second Aurora. I am in sales so I am in and out of my car a lot. It now has 140,000 miles on it. Repairs made to date... steering column replaced 3 times and needs to be repaired again, rear window motor replaced, and passenger side back door lock replaced. Things that still need repaired that I don't think are worth the money or I am holding out for...steering column ($900 each by the way), drivers side back door lock ($200), driver side heated seat cover ($1,000), chrome rims because the chrome is peeling off and won't hold air pressure, steering wheel dash lights, drivers side rear view mirror won't stay in place. And don't forget because it is a "luxury" car everything costs more than usual to repair, ceramic break pads, special size wheels, stronger battery, air conditioning pumps, fuel pumps etc... On the positive side- it does start everyday and has a really nice ride. Got me around nicely during a snow storm earlier this year when many SUV's were stuck. They are great cars but I wouldn't recomend keeping it into higher miles unless they come with an extended warranty.

A Luxury Vehicle Few Know About
What few people know is that Oldsmobile approached Cadillac to design a luxury vehicle for the Olds division. This vehicle was actually to be the next generation of Cadillacs, but Oldsmobile got it and Cadillac produced the CTS and its sister vehicles, instead. (I used to work for GMAC and talked to GM personnel) The Aurora is a superior constructed vehicle with its Cadillac suspension and its rich leather interior and wood grained dash. Personal memory seats, Electrochromatic Rear View Mirror, Bose stereo system, and a highly superior paint exterior are just a few hints this was built to be a luxury sedan. As you can see from the ratings, those who have owned the Aurora have not been disappointed. And, you will notice the owners have held on to these vehicles for a long time. There are no vehicles that can replace the luxury for the same amount of money. Compare the Aurora interior to BMW, Saab, Mercedes, Audi and Cadillac CTS; it beats them all.

Shame
This is the most beautiful car i've ever owned. Believe me when I say that this one is so far above par that you'd be forgiven for mistaken it for a lexus or a cadillac. I've owned a 2003 cadillac deville, a 2003 lexus es300, a 2003 mercedes benz e320...and a acura TL...THIS vehicle (2001 oldsmobile aurora 4.0) is the best car i've ever driven, technology wise it has everything that the cadillac had. power wise it has everything the mercedes had. and some...I am extremely ashamed that GM has discontinued this model... They could have just kept this lone model in the line up, and would have done better than most foreign manufacter's. Olds's biggest mistake was not promoting this car more- I've never seen one advertisment for it...Trust me, seeing is believing. This car is perfect in every way...I've never had one problem with it (EVER)..I still own it and will always keep it. Quality-Comfort-Performance is the best of any vehicle i've ever owned....CAdillac can take a few cues from it...

High expectations more than met
I purchased my fully loaded Aurora 4.0 in March 2005 after shopping for the "right one" for a year. It had less than 30,000 miles and was in mint condition. I really like the styling and the black exterior with the beige interior. It still turns heads. Power is more than adequate and the NorthStar based engine is unbelievably quiet and smooth. The handling is surprising for such a big car and it is very, very comfortable. Sound insulation is the best of any car I have owned. You would be hard-pressed to find a luxury vehicle with this much equipment at such an attractive price. It's a shame it was discontinued.

Best Unknown Value!
I purchased my 2001 Olds Aurora V6 in May after an extensive search. My criteria was: large-midsize or full-size sedan, leather, automatic trans, mid 20s gas mileage, reliable. Some of the other vehicles I considered included the Lincoln LS, Chevy Impala, Buick Park Ave, Buick LeSabre, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord. While there were some very nice cars in that pool, namely the Honda Accord, a 2003+ model like I wanted with leather would have cost approximately $17k with 60-70k miles. In comparison, I paid $10k with my Aurora 64k miles. The resale value may not be nearly what the Honda's is, but I spent $7k less up front. The 2001+ Aurora is a distinctive car that has people constantly asking what it is and complimenting it, you don't see too many around. The leather is extremely comfortable front and back, although the back is a little low. One of my favorite things is how the center console is tilted towards the driver. All controls are easy to reach and make sense at first glance. The wood trim is as authentic as any in this class. I also love the memory driver's seat, the steering wheel controls, and the automatic headlights & rain sensing wipers. The 3.5 V6 engine was better than the 4.0 V8 in my opinion for several reasons. Reliability was indicated to be better, gas mileage was definitely better, and the V8 felt TOO heavy in the front end of the car making it feel not nearly as nimble. The V6 has plenty of power and I average 24 mpg on a 50/50 commute. Highway trips have consistently produced 28+ mpg. I did have to replace the power steering pump ($375) shortly after buying it. That is a typical accessory to fail on a GM product. Trunk is also a little short on height because of the styling, and there is only a pass-through, no fold-down back seat. For the money in the used car market, you can't beat the Aurora.

2001 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0
I have owned a 2001 Olds Aurora 4.0 since December of 2000. In the almost 46 years that I have been driving, I have never seen a better car, all things considered. GM made the biggest mistake it has ever made when it took the Aurora out of production.
