We needed a car for winter driving, long trips, and occasional light hauling. We'd narrowed down to the RAV4, Santa Fe, Xterra, or CR-V. After we rented a RAV4 Limited V6 4WD for a long weekend test drive, we decided we liked the Toyota, and the extra power and traction of the V6 with 4WD. The first year for the V6 was 2006, so to keep our price down we chose that year. We've found the steering to be firm and positive, suspension somewhat tight, a little rougher than our Camry sedan, but great for hauling and severe weather driving. The controls are fairly intuitive, but some of the SUV-related features - VSC, DAC, 4WD Lock, Hill Start Assist - left us a little confused. The power window controls on the drivers side are a little awkward to reach around the armrest handhold. Power-adjustable driver's seat makes for great long trip comfort, and seat heaters are a blessing when the temps are below freezing. The interior is fairly quiet on the highway, but not as quiet as our Camry. But our first trip in the RAV4 proved the 4WD's worthiness and ability, as we drove 800 miles, then spent a week driving on snow-packed roads, and never had a problem, driving only with all-season passenger tires. Hiway mileage is still fairly impressive at 25 mpg or so, city is 19-21 mpg. We're expecting this SUV to last us a good long time, based on Toyota's overall reputation for reliability.

The RAV4 is ecellent in every way. I have the 3rd row seat. It's small, only good for kids or small adults - 5ft 3 and under. But it's handy when you have those extra passengers. I have the 4 cyl-a little sluggish, so if that matters to you, get a 6. Mileage is good 22-23 city 26-27 highway. 4wd- Excellent in snow!

This is my fist Rav. I would only purchase the 2006 and Newer because it considerably larger. It handles very well. I've already put about 7,000 miles on it and now have 87k. My mechanic called it a trade up and has told me this one will last forever! My combined gas mileage has been very close to 26 MPG.

Checked out all the smaller SUV's before we purchased 2006 Toyota Rav 4, with the price of gas, we decided to buy the 4 cly, front wheel drive only, thinking the gas milage would be close to,like we were told 24 in town and 30 on highway, we purchased the Rav in Feb of 2006, in March we went on a trip to Florida, with only 1000 miles on new Suv, after putting on over 3000 miles mileage was around 25 to 29 on higway, very happy, but after the trip we started to check mileage in town, what a surprise, sometimes only 17, at time maybe 19.Contacted Toyota, the said the rating is not corect, they send me a large E-mail, explaining all the different thing that can cause poor gas mileage, also I saw a new chart for the Rav 4, and it said 20 in town 27 highway, I also have large 1998 Olds 88 that get better mileage in town and highway, how do explain that.

We travel a lot and when we needed to purchase a newer vehicle, we did about 9 months of research and found the Rav was for us. We have a Limited 4cyl 4x4 sunroof leather jbl... The only problem was the third row feature or lack there of. We could not find a Limited with a third row. We do know the third row is a little of a joke (foot room even for kids) and the fact we have traveled across country now twice and up and down both the east and west coast, the little compartment in the trunk area was very needed empty. I would also change the floor colors. It should be a black carpet and floor mats. Ours is a very light gray and getting it professionally cleaned every 6 months is a must. Other then that, we have now three other family members owning Rav's now. This Rav was a lease and was like new when we purchased it. I put use down as having fun since we use it for EVERYTHING!!!

Bought this car new in 2005. Was happy with it for first 4 years. Lots of power, very zoom-zoom, easy to park, good cargo space, decent millage. More road noise then I would like. Just after 5 years, the universal stirring shaft had to be replaced for almost $700 and, at 100,000 miles transfer case went and tranny had to be rebuild. A whopping $6,000 job after 5.5 years of driving the car!!! They don't make them to last anymore, look elsewhere!

Most enjoyable car I've ever owned. The rear door is the only draw back. The rear door swings open and several times in a parking lot I have been unale to open the door if another driver parks too close. The rear door also collects snow quickly and the rear wiper stops operating until the snow is cleared away.
