I need a car with some practicality and really wanted to have some performance. The 2011 GTI bridges that gap perfectly. I chose the Autobahn edition - and the upgrades were worth it. The car handles like a dream - I run it stock. I have done some minor maintenance - put better tires on it - new plugs and wires - and had a good alignment done. Otherwise - it is mostly oil changes and filter updates. I am getting excellent gas mileage (averaging 29/30 city and 32/24 highway) - but enjoy the perks of a peppy and exciting drive every day. I have to haul around gear constantly, and it is surprisingly roomy for its size. My kids love riding in my little Whip - it feels exciting to them. I turn into traffic with confidence - it responds how I ask it to - and creates a general sense of safety, security, and fun! Not a "family car", not a "sedan", not slow, not boring, not ugly. . . it's just right. If you want sport , style, price, and economy - this turbo is the best option for you.

I loved this car, it was a 6 speed and so much fun to drive!! The best looking interior of a car I've owned to date. Know what your getting into with a 2 door. It can be very inconvienent. My main reason for trading it in was the FWD. I commute over an hour each way to work and I live in the north east. I had snow tires on it and still had no confidence in the car with anything over a dusting on the roads. Ended up trading it in for an Audi A3

I've owned this car for 3 years now, and to say the least, I love it. It's the best car I've ever owned. It does exactly what I want it to do on a regular basis. Gets me to the store to buy groceries, or gets me to work cruising down the back roads when I'm a few minutes late for work. This car does it all, with plenty of power, yet you don't sacrifice on MPG. When I first got the car, I read online it was know for GTI: which stands for gas, tires, and insurance. I have managed to be just shy of 30 mpg on a consistent basis with this car. Yet I can achieve that MPG while still using the car to its fullest potential. The car may have a small engine, but you don't miss out on power at all. I did the APR Stage 1 tune to my GTI and its a whole new machine. Quick off the line, when you need to pass someone when the lanes merge, this car really does do it all. Only gripe about it is I went with the 2 door, and looking back, 4 door would be much nicer. Yes the coupe looks better, but getting young adults, who are between 5'6" and 6' tall is a bit tricky. Other than that, not a single complaint. It really is a great piece of machine.

I was looking for 3 things in a car. 1) Economical, 2) Fun to Drive, 3) Functional Storage. I drove the Mini Clubman which was more than I wanted to spend but otherwise met all the criteria; A BMW 335d which was WAY more than I wanted to spend; as well as an older 330i, G37, and the Golf TDI which were compromises in other ways. I was not looking at this car but drove it and knew that this was 'it'. It was an well optioned '11 and it is a blast to drive. I am hard on cars and like to bang them into corners and hard accelerate them and yet, with mostly around town driving, I'm still averaging 25 mpg. The other thing about this car is I got it off the dealership under 20k. My other car is a large cushy Grand Cherokee and I hate parking it (I live in the Central Contra Costa county. Lots of cars, not so much space). That car is a lumbering hulk and no fun to run to the store in. No problem with the GTI! Happy to have made this discovery.

Absolutely the best bang for your buck car on the market, period. I have owned the 2 door base model of this vehicle for over 3 years and driven 43.5k miles with absolutely no issues. The outstanding quality of construction is evident in the sound the door makes when it closes, the materials throughout the cabin, and the smooth performance of the engine and transmission. When you don't want to compromise between interior quality and comfort, performance, fuel economy, storage space, and cost of ownership, the GTI is the go to vehicle. Such a thrill to drive! Standard features like turn signals in the side view mirrors, heated seats, turbocharged engine, automatic brake for hill starts, bluetooth and AUX audio, interior LED lighting, leather steering wheel and shifter with red stitching, twin chrome tip exhaust, bucket seats, and much more make this vehicle a step above the rest and an absolute joy to be in. Steering is smooth, turn radius is excellent, and so much power! I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

i made a nearly even trade of a 2012 GLI 6MT Autobahn for 2011 6MT red GTI Autobahn because I wanted the hatchback functionality (more dog friendly) and a car that's actually fun to drive. the GTI seems quicker and certainly is more nimble but at the expense of ride comfort. GTI interior is nicer (real leather seats) and the car feels more solid with better quality materials (Germany vs Mexico?). my sense of buyers remorse has been thoroughly addressed now that i have the car that i should have bought 2 years ago. can't go wrong with a GTI!
