Explore the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Worst car ever.

I bought this car at 108k and I've had problems with it from the start. After about a month of driving it, my left blinker stayed on when starting or turning it off, and when I accelerated it made a rapid blinker noise, despite the fact that my blinker wasn't even on. I found it to do this more when it was warm out. Also, my glovebox was broken like every other Jetta I looked at. Eventually my trunk latch broke and I had to push down on it for it to pop up which took me 3 weeks to figure out. Then about 2 months ago, my timing belt went and ever since then cylinder 4 is misfiring. I've replaced the fuel injectors, spark plugs, coils and did a complete clean out and the car is still misfiring. I will never buy a VW again.

Up in the air - just bought it.

I went against the grain and bought the car used. It's a 2001 Jetta GLX VR6. I've heard mixed things about. So far, for a 10+ year old car it seems fine. It's an automatic transmission, and had only 63kmiles. For 5700 dollars in todays used car market, I figured I'd give VW my first try. Pros - It's got plenty of power, even for it's age. The previous (and sole owner) kept the inside immaculate. The leather seats were still smelling like new, so much that it's sometimes annoying lol. Everything was clean inside, and it's design is still appealing. Cons - I'm worried about the maint. I've heard A LOT of horror stories (web based), and it could be a lot of the same people spamming different sites. We'll see. This car has 63k miles from an original owner, and very well maintained. Beyond that, he kept it cleaner than I ever could. My rating is based off initial driving. It's a fair car, awesome deal. Might be a bit of a gamble though maint. wise. It's no honda or toyota.

go for the 2.8L

I drove a couple, and ended up getting the GLS VR6 This is a 2.8L V6 full leather, sporty and very fun car, can be dressed up or down, looks good next to a BMW 3 series or Mercedes C Class, or next to the Nissan and Honda racers.. Love the car

fun car to drive..but lots of money to maintain

I own a 2001 Jetta glsVR6 automatic transmission. I bought it in 2006 with about 72000 miles. I was the 4th owner and I understand why. It is very fun to drive,It has a great sounding engine, and very comfortable inside. On the downside it has a very tight engine compartment so alot of mechanics in my area don't want to work on it and the dealerships tend to be on the expensive side or you go in for one thing to be fixed and they find 5 other things that need to be repaired. I have spent more then my fair share to keep the car running and in top shape. Friends have told me to trade it in but I just love driving the car too much. The only way I get rid of it is if the engine goes. It has 117243 miles on it know and hopefully it last more many more

The Best Car You Can Get

I bought a 2001 in 2005, since then I've put on 200,000 miles for a grand total of 270,000. Still runs great and still gets 50mpg on the highway, 46-48 city. Never had to perform any maintenance other than oil changes (synthetic) every 8,000 miles, and front end alignment twice. I refuse to buy a newer model because the mileage has suffered so much. There is no reason for 140 hp. Mine is 115 (with chip) and will do 0-60 in 8 seconds flat. You cant beat that.

This car was the worst decision Ive ever made

I bought this car because it was cute, comfortable, powerful, drove smooth. I loved it! But, after 3 months of owning it until now (4 years later) I have done nothing but put money into it. Maintaining the car is expensive because the VW dealerships are rediculously expensive. It's very hard to find mechanics who aren't at the dealership to work on this car. 6 months ago I replaced the timing belt and tried to trade it in for another vehicle, however, nobody wants this car either! The car dealerships/lots know how terrible these cars are and wont take it.... they wouldn't even make me an offer on it... not one of them!! So, today this Volkswagen left me stranded on the side of the road for the last time. I still owe thousands on it, but it has 4 new engine lights on and I refuse to put any more money into it. I wish everyone luck in getting rid of their VWs and finding new dependable vehicles.

German engineering equals Fail

I bought this car with 125,000 miles. I had to replace the transmission and the transmission computer. Then 7 months go by and the alternator had to be replaced as well as all of the spark plugs that were replaced not even 4 months prior. Now it has some internal electrical problem that will take hours to figure out. All of this and I still don't have that car paid off yet. it has 143.000 miles now and I highly doubt it will last til 200.000 at this rate. It's very expensive to fix and gives me heartburn every time I have to deal with it. I wish I had the money to take a loss and get a different car. It was my fault that I didn't look into the car before I bought it. This will def be my last and only VW period. I wanted to get an Audi after this but I probably will be looking into the Asian car market now.

The jetta is very clean on the outside and it hasnt had any damage to the outside. The inside is nice but could be better. It would be a good first car.
