You have to do the maintenance
All the reviews I have read lead me to belive that some people just haven't done the neccessary maintenance for this car! You have to do the 40k maintenance, oil changes and tire rotations. If you don't keep it up the car will have problems, just like any other car.

Not worth the trouble.
The car was a great at the time, but is it worth the headache's. Yes it is, your getting yourself in debt paying off the defects that keep on happening to this car. Engine light keeps turning on for what so reason, Gas tank leaks, oil burns to quickly. Noise's start coming from the engine again for no reason. Just don't even think twice about it, don't buy it.

Jetta v6
Very dependable car. Other that your normal wear and tear stuff, i have never had any problems. Has over 80 thousand miles on it and still runs great! Would certainly buy another one.

DON'T BUY THIS CAR
I bought this car in 2005 with $30,000. I was very excited about my new cute car! I had always been told that Volkswagons will drive forever as long as you take care of them. This car drives smoothly and is fun to drive. The turbo comes in quite handy. While I knew that up keep would be slightly more expensive with a German car, I had no idea what I had gotten myself in for. I have spent $1000 at least each year in maintenance. As others have stated, I've needed my entire coolant system replaced more than once. Four years later, my car only has 56k miles on it, and it needs $4,600 in repairs just to be drivable. Save yourself the disappointment I'm not experiencing.

Please don't buy this car!
2001 - VW - Jetta 1.8T Wolfsberg Edition This car is extremely fun to drive. What do I mean? It's a five speed turbo engine, so it has some zip and power to it. Acceleration is quick and handling is is good. It's a cute car that's - well - fun to drive! The down side is that once it reached about 100,000 miles, it just started falling apart. And finding an honest mechanic that can ALSO work on VW's is quite difficult. I purchased the car in 2006 when it was 5 years old. The people who sold it to me must have known what they were doing. I negotiated the price down because I knew the timing belt would need to be replaced as soon as I took it home. What I WASN'T expecting were the $2,500 + in additional expenses for other problems that needed to be fixed. (That's not including regular maintenance, folks.) Among the list of repairs/problems: -Coolant system fixed -- twice. -Coolant system replaced. -(2) New Batteries within 6 months due to an electrical pull that was never found. (that still makes me nervous) -Check engine light that never goes off (after I've had it "fixed" it comes on about 100 miles down the road-makes emissions testing near impossible) -Tempurature gauge replaced (about a year before the coolant system went) -Sunroof leak -Car automatically locks even after I have opened the door - sometimes with the key in the ignition! -Something about the Cam Shaft somthing or another. Anyway, don't buy VW. Save yourself some drama.

Money and Gas Guzzler
I purchased this car used with about 30K miles on it. Within 2 weeks of owning the vehicle the electrical wiring in the steering had to be replaced. Since then I have put no less than 1000K per year into car repairs of all sorts from bad wheel bearings to problems with the catalytic converter. Though I am a conservative driver I have never earned more than 24miles/gallon and have to frequently add oil to the engine. Bottom line: I should have listened to my parents and purchased a different make of car.

A great car for people who love fixing cars
As much fun as this car is to drive, it is horribly unreliable and spends plenty of time in the shop

VW
I purchused mine used and it was great until the first year mark and the obvious things that I saw about Jetta's all started to happen from the Converter to the window regulator to the latch in the armrest...it's definetly a great car otherwise and I give them the benefit of doubt to a point cause let's face it cars are not made like they use to be pre 2000 models and parts are shipped and assembled all over the place.
