We are so happy we bought this vehicle!

We bought it 3 months ago to replace a Mazda3 because we did not like the local dealer (long story). The Volkswagen people were and are great, AND this car is so good in every category we wish we'd bought it three years ago, instead of just three months ago. Also, this car has the most lucid and understandable owner's manual of any we've ever owned, which is amazing in this day and age!

Value for the price

Impressive fuel economy, effortless acceleration, and straightforward controls. Roomy rear seat and a huge trunk. Get the cold weather package if you live in a cold climate area.

Best car I've ever bought. Affordable and comfortable, also cute. Very economical and cute! I love the shut engine off feature that saves me gas. This car will serve me well for many years

Fun and Practicality

I set out to find a simple car with nothing in it that I would not use. The Jetta has surpassed my expectations. The 1.4 liter engine provides the excitement of the 1.6 liter engines of the 1960's Alfa Romeo's and Porsches, but it is smoother and more responsive. The manual transmission shifts easily. The brakes and steering are excellent as well. The Falken tires seem to be well-matched to the car. The driver enjoys a totally uncluttered view of the road both forward and backward. The windshield pillars do not impair vision to the side. As with most VW's and Audi's, the ergonomics are superb. There are no long reaches. Everything is visible, and easy to read or manipulate. The cloth seat has a nice feel and offers adequate adjustment. An added plus is that the car is a legitimate four-door sedan with an adequate trunk. The entertainment and communications system seems to work, but the instructions are inadequate. The "Bluetooth" link works flawlessly and is easy to set up as does the radio and the media player. With "Android Auto" installed, an Android cell phone is supposed to link up with the Jetta. It usually does, but communication is sometimes lost. The manual is of virtually no use in this respect. I have only driven the car for 500 miles so I cannot comment on reliability. On my first fill-up, the car got 32.1 MPG. The driving was suburban. The car is rated for regular gasoline, and there has been not the slightest hint of knocking. VW provides no guidance whether using a higher grade of fuel would produce any benefit. Comments on-line go both ways. All in all, I am most pleased with the Jetta.

Traded it after 6 mths and 21000 miles

Wow what a great looking Audi A4 with a VW logo ! Honestly had someone think they were getting in their A4 (which was parked nearby) at the Post Office. Its a great looking car, interior looks ok. The downside to this car is how VW cut costs in building it..... No independent rear suspension, previous versions had this important feature, this allows for that great big trunk with the lid that does not open all the way on its own, just enough to hit you in the forehead every time. The hood is made of low grade steel and must weigh 100 pounds, the first time I opened it I thought the latch was stuck when I tried to lift it. I suspect these two things have a subtle effect on this cars tendency to wander at highway speed. That and the enormous glass panel sunroof. The weight has been shifted up above the mid-point of the car, that is above the center of the wheels. The car is buffeted by crosswinds and is hard to keep truly steady constantly requiring ting steering inputs. Some reviewers praise the ride quality, it rides ok but the suspension transmits into the cabin more than it should. The standard infotainment system is so-so, the screen is black and white, it does not read your text messages and you can't turn audio off independently when using Android Auto or Apple car play. Top trim models have a different system so they may be better in this respect. The transmission has two seperate known issues, It has a noticeable torque converter rattle at low speeds, and uneven shifting in the lower gears, oh yea some of them leak fluid as well. My car had these issues documented . VW appears to have an attitude of "It is operating within normal design specifications" they will however repair or replace it should it fail completely during the 72mth or 72K warranty (which was for model year 2019 only ! ) I averaged 39 mpg overall in 21,000 miles, mix of stop and go (annoying auto stop feature) and high speed travel. Great MPG with very good engine performance, this is the highlight of this car. The interior is cheap, the fake leather on the seating surfaces is cheap the door trim, console, dash plastics, carpet etc. are low grade and were strating to show wear after only 6 months, no kids no pets. VW has built this car to a price point, clearly it not the "premium small car" the new golf costs more it has better engineering and materials, that is the one to buy, or is it? I suspect that the new 8 speed automatic that VW is using will become a significant problem for owners. I traded my car, the replacement (Nissan) has none of the shortcomings, maybe not as well styled or making less of a social statement, but a better engineered product.

Lots of digital advances

The car has features found on much more expensive cars: leather seats, which are cooled and heated, heated windshield wipers, all kinds of digital and safety features found in more expensive cars.

major transmission issues - class action lawsuit

VW is saying it is “normal”. Check other websites and don’t understand the high ratings and fixed reviews. It is across ALL 8 speed automatic jettas. 8 speed has shifting problems at 3-5 gears, low rpm, torque, rattles, grinding noise, burns oil, and has leaks after less than a year...problem! Mpg is not great because u need to push the peddle more to get it out of low rpm then shacks and growls. My Honda has no issues for 90k miles. It will lead to major problems and have your car in the shop for days with parts backordered. No more VWs for me, issues and VW saying it is normal and not fixing. Sucker for the warranty but they will never fix anything because it is normal. Never had these problems with any of my 15 cars. On one is dealers for a reason and Honda is packed. Should have got another Honda.
