My wife and I researched 24 CUV's, and after a great deal of thought, we settled on the Tiguan. And it has been one of the best automobile decisions we have ever made. The 2010 Tig costs 10% more than many of its competitors, but it offers a super build quality and finish that is usually reserved for luxury SUV's in the $50k range. This vehicle has an understated refinement and near-lux feel, and it handles very well in the snow and the dirt. The VW Tiguan has 10 airbags and five-star safety ratings all around. And the cabin is absolutely cavernous for a small CUV (drivers and passengers over 6 feet will easily fit in the Tig). The capacity is good for a small family, and it will also fit four big adults and one child if needed. Most of all: the Tiguan offers near-GTI handling, holding the road with a poise and refinement that is an absolute pleasure for the driver. Misgivings are few on this vehicle. The drivetrain does emit an unrefined sound under acceleration. The Tiguan does not have a diesel engine option in North America yet. The cargo hold is smaller that the competition. And the VW Pioneer touchscreen stereo is slower to respond in the cold. But there is nothing showstopping about any of those minor complaints. If you are looking for a compact CUV for winter/all-weather driving, and you want to save $3500, then I recommend that you buy the homely Honda CRV or the tired Toyota RAV4. But if you are looking for a substantial CUV that is truly built for driving, look at the Tiguan. Five stars out of five. p.s. Canadians and cold-weather drivers: I recommend the mid-level SE trim with Energy Cloth seats. The Tiguan warms up very rapidly, and the heated cloth seats are a godsend in -30C wintertime!

Balance grasshopper, if what you desire is a incredible SUV go test drive a TIGUAN. Specifically, in my opinion, a Wolfsburg with AWD,18in wheels, sun roof, and mud-flaps/rubber floor mats as options, white with beige leatherette, cost 30 K. Quality gets a A, performance A, styling A, value A, yes I love this perfect size SUV. Why you might ask is this 50 yr old guy so crazy with this auto, VW's thought process is the answer. Have owned many autos over the years and quite a wide variety. VW has created a perfectly balanced SUV with a large pinch of fun. It's time VW brought back the old phrase FARFIGNEWGEIN!

I bought a 2010 Tiquan SEL for my wife. She loves it. We got the Navigation system and it is wonderful and the bluetooth sound is great. We drove the BMW X3, the Mercedes GLK and Toyota RAV 4 and the Tiquan has the best ride of them all. It is solid and quiet and handles great. It is a little on the pricy side but we expect to have it a long time so I guess that is ok.

Tiguan SUV - good product for the money

This is the second Tiguan that we have owned. The first was destroyed in an accident; a testimony to the safety features of the car. The two of us walked away with no long term injuries. Each one had the wide panoramic sky roof; I call it the Jurassic Park window for its view and adding the the riding enjoyment of the rear passengers. We like the size and AWD features for the class of car. The turbo charged engine has plenty of pep and the vision is good. The servicing of parts is well thought out and easy for the do it yourselfer. I would have rated the reliability higher but as a used car it has a couple of minor issues including a bad fuel pump and module issue that the dealer admitted was known but was going to work with us on the post warranty repair. There is also an issue with the back seat beverage holder that breaks and falls apart. More to come on this point. Otherwise we like the size and overall features of storage, drivability of the car and would buy another.

I was looking for a small SUV and I thought that I wanted a Honda CRV. I took one test drive in the CRV and was very underwhelmed. I hadn't even considered a Volkswagen as an option, but when my husband brought it up, we decided to drive by the VW dealership. We both fell in love with the Tiguan right away. We loved how it looked from the outside and inside, and once we drove it I fell in love with how it handles and the turbo engine. It has lots of features that I really like: panoramic sun roof, heated seats, bluetooth connectivity, 6 disc CD changer, Satelite radio compatible, USB connection, and controls on the stearing wheel. 2010 didn't have the navigation system, but I know later models do. The vehicle does require premium fuel, so it may not be the best option for someone looking to save on gas.

I am very happy with the car so far!!! I?ve only had it for about 2 weeks, so I can?t talk much about reliability, but so far ? very happy! While shopping I looked at Nissan Rogue, Honda CR-V, Rav4 and even Nissan Murano and at the end I?m very happy with my choice. Yes, it is a little more expensive than the average in the class, but it?s worth every penny to me. It handles wonderfully and responds fast. 4 Motions systems was able to handle the snow and rain EASILY (I mean I didn?t even notice any slippage). For me the size is perfect; don?t get it if you?re looking for a full size SUV for a big family. This is a compact SUV, so for a couple or a family with one child it?s perfect. I LOVE the interior! Honda CR-v with its handicap gear shift doesn?t stand a chance. The quality of materials is the nicest I?ve seen in the class. The design is clean and well thought through; all the controls feel right in place. Cruise control is a little different, but not too hard to figure out. Sunroof is amazing. I didn?t get the navigation, but it?s still cool to have the touch screen for all the radio controls! The only downside that I?ve experienced is gas mileage. But I was prepared for this one. I haven?t taken it on the highway for too long yet, but in the city I?ve been getting about 17-18 miles per gallon?. The seats are very comfortable to me and there is enough legroom in the back seats. I?m happy I didn?t get Rogue and Murano for their bubbly design too. Much better off going with German engineers?. I get a lot of compliments on the street! Das Auto.

I have had my 2010 tiguan since early 2012. Returned to dealer for fuse box recall and intake recall. I found it to be good car for the most part until mileage reached 80,000 and rear main oil seal started leaking. Did my research and found this to be a common problem at 80,000 for the tiguan. Seems the seal was defective from the factory. There is a revised seal now from VW. Also i found out the hard way there is a defective timing chain tensioner in the 2.0 engine from the factory that fails without warning at 100,000 miles destoying the engine and the owner takes a hefty hit for repairs $5,000-$10,000 depending on speed at time of failure and amount of engine damage. Vw has revised part but charges $1,500 to replace and if you dont do it you will loose your engine. No recall or warning notice was ever issued by VW leaving owners to be blindsided when this failure occurs. A simple recall for the 2.0 engine 2012 and earlier would be the right thing for vw to do this would have saved me $5,000 in repair cost
