Everyone should buy a car from Patrick Collins

I've had my 1st car, a second hand 95 Buick Lesabre for about 5 years, and the whole time I had it I have admired Mazda vehicles from a distance. One minor fender bender was enough to total my car and get me searching for its replacement. To that end, I encountered Patrick Collins when I entered Sill-Terhar Motors, Mazda Dealership. I came in with specific Mazda 6 to try out. We quickly took it out for a test drive, and after driving it I had a couple concerns about that car. Patrick suggested few others vehicles they had on the lot to try out; a low mileage 2016 Mazda 3 hatchback, and a pair of 2016 Mazda 6's with around 40,000 miles on the clock. I found that the Mazda 3 (while great value) wasn't for me. The 2016 Mazda 6, on the other hand, was very nice, but I had some concerns about the reliability of Mazda vehicles. I have only ever had GM products in the past, and I am just unfamiliar with common problems for Mazdas. To address my concerns Patrick took me to speak with a member of the service department who did establish, to my satisfaction, that current generation of Mazda 6's did not suffer from any particular pattern of mechanical failures (which is what my online research had suggested). This left me with two concerns about the specific 2016 Mazda 6 I looked at (and liked the best out of the cars I drove). First, it was an ex-rental car, and secondly, the car sounded a little rough at idle on initial startup. While it is common for the Mazda 6s to idle at a higher RPM on startup to warm the combustion chamber/catalytic converter (which is stated in the owners manual), I thought that the car sounded off. Almost like the ignition timing was slightly out of adjustment (which is impossible since its computer controlled). In the end, that "rough" idle was probably within the spectrum of what is considered normal for these cars. However, the "rough" idle, combined with its history as a rental car caused me to pass on that car. At the end of that day, while I didn't buy a car from Patrick (because of my concerns with that specific car), I think everyone should. He was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, very patient, and he is the lowest pressure salesmen I've ever met (seriously, I could easily have forgotten I was car shopping). He is a genuinely nice person, and should I need to buy a car in the future he would be my first call.

We generally have bought high quality used cars, took great care of them, and used them up. We're an older couple, working fewer days/year and valued the flexibility and convenience of a three-year commitment with option to buy or trade. I'm a engineer with an MBA in Finance and enjoy running the numbers. I was very pleased with the offer made by Sill-Terhar's Patrick Collins on a 2016 CX-5. The key is calculating the "all in" cash versus buying outright, and we ran several other dealers' offers on competitive vehicles like the RAV4. In our case, the modest financial cost of having lease flexibility was better than burning nearly $30,000 of dry powder. Sill-Terhar simply gave us the best deal, from square one. I'm generally cautious around car dealerships... as one should be. Buying or leasing a vehicle is a big decision and commitment. When I first found the car I wanted online (BMW M5) I did what everyone would do, check the reviews on the dealership. What I found made me question the reliability of the reviews since the reviews were practically all 5 stars. Checked a few different sites, same answer 5 stars and were talking hundreds of reviews. The old saying came to mind, if it's too good to be true it probably is. Well this was not the case with Select Luxury. They are truly worth 5 stars and if the rating was 10 stars I would give them that. The Purchase: So I started by calling my credit union to get pre-approval since I like to going into a deal well prepared and it also lets the sales guy know I'm here to buy. After getting approved I called the dealer to verify how the transactions would happened since not all dealerships are the same and I'm also OCD. I ended up talking with Jerry (finance guy), real nice, professional, and answered all my questions. He then mentioned he could probably beat any deal I got from the bank, challenge on! So I told him I would drive up tomorrow (2+hrs away) and I would talk to a sales person then. Friday came and I arrived at the dealership. At first I was a bit intimidated, as I drive in the parking lot I see the first few cars, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and just about any other exotic car you could image and here I am rolling up in a beat up old 2004 BMW 5 series. No sooner I got out of the car here comes the sales guy, now I got the usual dreaded shark attack feeling, ok here we go. Thinking back, I'm not even sure what he said first but I immediately fell at ease, this was not the usual sales person I thought and his name was Allen. I told him what I was looking for and it was not in the lot so off we went to his desk to check the inventory. After clicking a few minutes on his computer we found it. It was as the service center. Didn't even hesitate, grabbed some keys and off to the service center we went which happened to be just a block or two down the street. Walked in and there it was, there were doing some cleaning on the interior. Again, grabbed the keys and test driving we go. I know its long winded but here comes the best part of this story. So during the test drive the navigation was not working, required some activation code which Allen tried a few from memory, then picked up the manual and did some research, no luck. Mind you I'm still driving down the road, without hesitation again he pick up his phone and called the BMW right on the spot. They said you have to go to a dealer, now most of you are probably thinking ah hah and you would be wrong. He reassured me about 5 times, don't worry will take care of it. So now I'm sitting in the show room filling out paperwork which was probably the easiest I have every seen and off to the financing guy we went. There was Jerry, he immediately remembered me from the night before which was nice, most people don't when you deal with a lot of volume. Wouldn't you know, he got a better deal, after signing my life away ( ha ha), Allen says they are going to clean up the car one more time, lets go to lunch my treat. We got back, the cars was looking great and off I went home. The very next day I went to the dealer which I got the run around of course so I called Allen and he jumped all the situation once again reassuring me don't worry. Sure enough they took care of everything. To wrap it up, at no time did I ever feel like I was sitting in a typical dealership and I'm not sure if I could pinpoint one thing that made the experience great. I had the best experience from start to finish. When I buy another luxury car or even upgrade to the exotic range ( I wish someday) I know where I'm going and that would be Select Luxury. Just Phenomenal! Thank You Allen and the rest of Select Luxury team!

John, the service manager, is great to work with. Estimates are spot on and he will always make time to fit you in. I've been in for 3 different issues and the guys always go a great job. Happy to see Lotus has an ACTUAL dealer here in Chicago now. Game changer for owning one of these in Chicagoland.
