2001 Toyota ECHO Base review
Best Toyota of the late 90s and 00s

Purchased a 2001 Toyota Echo from a family friend that had not ran in 3 years. Put a new battery in it and it turned over like it was brand new. At first I wasn't a huge fan of the 1990s era almost Geo Metro like styling, however over the years the car has grown on me. Despite having over 233,000 miles on it and being over 22 years old it has never broken down on me. Mine is the 5 speed manual version which I personally think is the best. The car is one of those vehicles that grows on you the more you drive it, it's a very nostalgic car that will take anyone older back to good old days. But don't worry if you're young because then it will show how motoring used to be. Overall anyone who likes retro looks, great fuel economy, Japanese reliability, and an entertaining drive should consider at least giving an Echo a test drive.
BY far, this is the greatest vehicle I've ever owned. It's a high performance turbo sports car, yet also a highly convenient and practical SUV with the AWD, high clearance, rear seat declining, back bed extension, and rear rabbit hole features.

This car was a dream come true to me when I got it. Spacious and sturdy. It drives a bit like a truck specially if you sit on the back seat. My daughter use to feel like throwing up sitting there because it jolted a lot. The seats are not comfortable. The air conditioner doesn’t have a separate button for you to choose where you want the air to go. It broke some times, but it didn’t have a chronic problem. Always fixable. It drives well on a nice road, I’m not sure about a dirt road, I haven’t driven on one with it. The sound has very good quality, but the volume button after a while got crazy and it was hard to turn up or down. I drove from SF to LA some times and it performed well. It was mostly driven in the small city I live. The cargo space is big and it fits a lot of things and plus the back seats colapse making it even bigger! After a few years the back door started acting out and would not unlock and it still does it, the passenger window stopped working from the command on the driver side. The windshield wipers stopped working and I had to deal with that during storms, once in a while something would break. I believe it was because the car started selling on that year and they didn’t have the best parts together because I’ve met people who had the same car from the same year with very similar problems. I actually bought extra warranty because I learned that from my mom, when you buy a car in the first year they’re made, make sure you get extra warranty. I used it well! For the 1st 5 years!
Josh was so nice & helped us get into our new vehicle! He was professional & got us in & out in a good amount of time!

Best Bang for your Buck!!

It is very good on gas if you keep up preventive maintenance, dependable we bought used with 130,000 miles 3 years ago and over 200,000 miles now and has never let us down, great for long trips with the family 7 seats fit everyone in comfort with plenty of room for luggage on top and can be equipt with a cargo carrier, the kids love it and both our dogs can't wait to roll out, by far the best bang for your buck instead of putting out money for a new vehicle we just got a new paint job with a set of new stock rims we good for another 10 years. we did an upgrade to the nav/radio for only $122.00. aftermarket parts are extremely reasonable so when it's time to change out a part it's very easy on the wallet, take care of her and she won't let you down.
Purchased a 2002 Joseph Abood Regal used this past August. Previous 1 owner with 68k miles. Car is great to drive, handles well and gas mileage for engine size (with turbo) is very decent. For the value its a great buy and have had small minor repairs (2 power window motors ) but the car overall has been durable, reliable and have gotten compliments on the 2 tone leather and paint design. Looked at other brands but Im very pleased for what i got for the money spent.
I drove my parents trailblazer for 2 years covering approx. 300 miles a week going to tech school with 160,000 miles on the vehicle already. I put on about 30,000 miles in total. This vehicle had the original spark plugs and boots in it and started giving me issues at about 186,000 miles. It NEVER stranded me. That on it's own, makes it an amazing vehicle. The only other parts I had to get replaced was a transmission line that rusted out, idle pulley belt, brakes/calipers, and the spark plugs and boots. Highly recommend this beast of a suv.
The 97 is my first car, she may be 23 years old but she's never given up on me or any of my family members. The longest she's stayed out of commission was when we were waiting for the starter to come in. She always has surprises in store for me, overall I wouldn't trade her for the world. The car may not have a back bumper, or shocks(that's also fun when hitting a bump, free bouncy house) and the interiors seen better days, but these aren't the car's fault. A car's condition determines the person's ability to care for a car.
I purchased my 2004 Honda Pilot brand new. I have 215,000+ miles on her now and the only thing I’ve ever had done is basic maintenance. The paint is starting to peel which makes me so angry with myself for not keeping the old girl in the garage all the time. Best car I’ve ever had. Won’t drive anything but a Honda for sure!
I also had considerable sliding door problems, even opening on the freeway and scaring my mom in law. Also, the factory painted exterior began to deteriorate around 60,000 miles and continued to advertise poor quality.
Bought it with 192,000 miles on it and it runs like new. Got it for 2750 had to replace the struts and shocks, a fan belt, needed a new exhaust and a few other minor fixes. The engines in great shape no tranny problems. Think I might need a new fuel pump but other than that it's in very good condition. I was amazed at how it drove it was like brand new. This car is pretty fast and has a quick pick up and amazingly fast acceleration. Fun car to race. Has incredible handling taking tight turns and on winding roads. It's quattro technology and stabilization option make weather no problem, this car has no problem going 70 plus in snow and heavy rain. It's luxurious on the inside with alot of high tech stuff for a 2001. I got the sedan and have had it for 6 months now, i bought it off an old man and its only had 2 owners before me. Its in excelent condition, good buy I love it.

Nothing fancy, great A to B vehicle. Rides smooth and quiet. Aged like wine. Doesn't go anywhere fast but you can easily rely on it to get you there.
