I could have titled this review "Car buying for the busy professional" or "How to buy a car (mostly) over the phone"...but I think the title above makes the most sense.
If you want to buy one of the hottest brands right now (looking at you Hyundai), go to Earnhardt's Hyundai in Avondale, AZ. Ask for Eddie Nunez. Smile.
So, I had a car in mind (the 2018 Elantra GT) and I knew I HAD to have only two features, a Panoramic sunroof, and Ventilated seats (if you lived in Arizona, you'd understand). So, I look around online, and nobody, and I mean NO DEALERSHIPS showed they had one on the lot. But, while browsing Earnhardt Hyundai, one of those annoying 'Chat with a sales rep' pop-ups appears, and I think "why not? can't hurt to ask right?" so I start chatting.
The typing on the other end belonged to a 'first-line' personnel-type, but she quickly handed me off to Eddie. Quick, efficient and understanding, Eddie calls me (after asking for my number and only a few minutes to find the car), and tells me they have an Elantra GT in white, with EXACTLY those two features in stock.
"You want the tech package," he tells me, "thats the one that gives you the ventilated seats and panoramic sunroof." So, I tell him, "I'm at work, I can't take off all day, and I have a concert to go to tonight (the U2 concert at Phoenix Stadium), so here is all my info, here is where I would like to stay around on payment, here is my trade-in information, and when you have a deal (monthly price) in my range, call me back"
I wasn't expecting a call-back to be honest. I fully expected to have to deal with the whole "no come down to the dealership, have some stale popcorn and wait while we do the 'numbers' dance." I was happily surprised.
Eddie calls me and says, "here is your payment (none of your business, reader), and the car will be here from our other dealership at 2, can you come down then and check it out?" Oh heck yea!!
I get down there, meet Eddie (great guy, super friendly), meet the car, we go for a drive, he shows me the best parts of the tech package, and then on to the finance dept. Here is where most of you would think that the story takes a turn.
Peter in finance knew my time was limited (prior engagement) and got me in and out of finance in almost 15 mins. FIFTEEN MINUTES. 15!!! I hand't even HEARD of that. I was in and out of the dealership in a total of an hour. To be fair, I had to come back to sign somethings the next day, but still. HOLY COW that was fast!!
Anywho, my car rocks. I have a ventilated leather seat (try finding that on a car this size for this price...go ahead...try), a super large sunroof, plenty of power under my right foot, and a great big smile on my face.
