It's a work horse but not a tow truck. 2.3 computer controlled carb works well on cold starts. Power is lacking but it's not a dog. Keeps up with freeway traffic fine. It handles the 1600 lb payload advertised. 23-26 mpg.
Rebuilt the suspension, changed vacuum and fuel lines, all new front accessories. Swapped out sensors/ignition components. None were necessary, just piece of mind. The motor/trans/rear are just fine. I change all fluids frequently. Aluminum rear diff cover with fill/drain plugs helps to change the GM 10 bolt gear oil more often.
The ride is not refined but isn't harsh. No squeaks or rattles from suspension. My preferred vehicle when driving across Texas or on a road trips. Reliability is great for 300,000 miles. Will rebuild engine/drivetrain around 350-400k miles.
Pros - interior controls easy to access, vent windows, A/C & heater, mpg, payload, center arm rest, reliable, cheap maintenance, truck turns heads, gas tank drain plug is nice.
Cons - Manual steering, stock 50-60 amp alternator. Can buy a universal high output alt. 5 speed Isuzu trans is hard to find parts for, but is very reliable. Low 5th gear overdrive helps when truck is loaded, but runs high rpms on freeway.
