I love this car

My Outback is sturdy, dependable, comfortable and, as far as I'm concerned, really cool. It handles really well in the snow and is rugged enough so I feel comfortable driving just about anywhere, yet luxurious enough to enjoy long distance trips at the wheel. It is also very highly rated for safety, which makes me feel more comfortable driving my family around.

Superb

Best service experience I've ever had. Superb, professional and personal service, with top-notch free espresso bar (and dogs) to boot! Worth buying a Subie just for this. Also, Susan, my "case worker," was especially terrific. Both friendly and professional and interested in my personal experience with the car and quality of service and operation.
Not a Bad Choice But Requires Maintenance
by Greg4Subie from Richmond, Virginia

Love these car- lots of cargo space with good fuel economy. However, the headlamps were constantly burning out- until Subaru extended the repair at no cost, but really was inconvenient, and I was pulled over a few times for it. My 4cyl had timing belt(s), and had to be replaced twice (so far), due to the maintenance- very expensive at the dealership. The CV boots were replaced from wear, and the sparkplug seals deteriorated- causing motor oil to leak into the sparkplug housing. My Outback was a standard shift- and I have had to replace the clutch once- I have never ever had to replace a clutch in any car I have ever owned. My 2011 Outback was a "Check Engine Light" nightmare which included replacing the O2 sensors, and the catalytic convertors - very expensive. All of these repairs were performed by a Subie mechanic- but not the dealer. These are very expensive repairs at a dealership. Tires can be a bit of a problem for cupping- so I rotate every 5K- and that seems to correct the issue. This is my second Subie, and the first one ran over 360K miles. However, they can be costly to maintain- and that's with me performing a lot of the maintenance myself. I currently have over 210,000 miles on the car, and would like to keep it another year at least- hopefully to get some of the repair cost back. I plan to replace the Outback in a year, and will most likely purchase another Subaru. I understand the new models do not have a timing belt, and they no longer offer the manual trans. Other issues common to the Outback includes the head gasket (fingers crossed), my mechanic tells me it's a common issue for the boxer engines. The Outback is an awesome choice for a small/mid SUV. It gets great gas mileage, has lots of cargo space and can handle just about any weather condition. Besides looking at the new Outback (2018, 2019), I am also looking at the Toyota RAV4, and Honda CRV, and the Subaru Forrester (2019). If you purchase a used Outback, make sure you know the service history. If the car has not been maintained, you can end up spending a lot of money after purchase.

Weird honking noise when I turned to the left and my instrument lights kept coming on. Susan talked me through all of the recommended work and was very helpful.

First service
by Lease2 from DealerRater.com

My first service as a Subaru owner could not have been any better. I was greeted quickly, service was explained thoroughly. I had decided to wait in the lounge area and was pleasantly suprised that the service was completed earlier that quoted. Great Job!
Over a quarter million miles and still going...
by CHITTYB from Cedar City

My Outback has been less problematic than the six new vehicles I have previously owned; one Fiat and five Chrysler products two of which were JEEPS, and all were problems. Subaru has serviced my Outback ,at no charge to me two times when my Outback was well out of warranty !
