So Glad I Bought This Car
March 8, 2019
I was dead set on buying a plug-in hybrid car. I wanted a car that would use more electricity than the 2004 Prius that was my previous car (one that I had for 14-plus years), but an electric-only car was not practical for the occasional long-range travel that is expected of me. I read about the various plug-in hybrids and narrowed it down to the Chevy Bolt, the Honda Clarity, and the Toyota Prius Prime. After test driving the Chevy and the Honda (local dealers did not have Primes on their lots), I decided to buy a very slightly used Prius Prime from Vroom (whom I recommend, by the way). I love driving this car. Although it has been criticized in some automobile magazines as sluggish, I find it to be quite peppy; in fact, in the "Power" mode, it has a lot of zip. It is super easy to charge at home on 120V. I wish it traveled just a bit further on just electric energy, but if I am careful with my acceleration, I can get back and forth to work two days in a row before needing to charge the car again (a process that takes just 5 hours). Unlike the Chevy, the interior is well made with good quality materials and tight fit and finish. Unlike the Honda, the combustion engine does not sound like a four-stroke engine. I look forward to 14 years with this car.
