We initially went to another Volvo dealer to test drive an XC40 and was not impressed with their level of engagement and professionalism. Luckily, the next day, we met Koffi Niamke-Bervell from Don Beyer Volvo. Koffi offered to come to our house to bring the car we wanted to test drive. He gave us a detailed introduction to how the car worked, the types of packages we could purchase and overall, was competent, friendly, and polite. Service review. Brought in my car for a 10,000 (free!) service. Debbie Stack is my service advisor and she is fantastic. She scheduled a quick appointment and when there was something on my bumper she took the initiative to run it by the detail department and they fixed it! No surcharges, friendly service staff, nice waiting area with snacks and coffee. Receptionist was lovely and patiently helped me with the very fancy coffee machine. Car was done in 1.5 hours. This is my 2nd XC40 and it is one of the most perfect cars but its by no means cheap. The car can be as loaded as its bigger brother, except for heads up display. They all use the same engines, with the exception of turbo types, and bi-turbo options. All Volvos are moving to mild hybrid as standard and all 2023 XC40's are now mild hybrids. The XC40 is nimble, loaded and well designed. It has just about every feature including all wheel drive, Google auto, panoramic sunroof, power tail gate, and leather seats, redesigned for 2023. It is stylish, detailed and not meant to feel like the entry model. In fact, it can cost more than its bigger brother the XC60! Driving it is a pleasure as it is preppy and confident.

My partner wanted me to get a vehicle that availed itself of all the current self-driving and safety technologies currently on offer, and after much research, this is car I landed own. And the XC40 did not disappoint. I'm approaching my first year of ownership and comfortably say it is the best vehicle I've ever owned. With near seamless adaptable cruise control making multiple long-haul road trips as effortless as driving across town, my Volvo makes me want to drive it anywhere. Stylistically, it's a bit frustrating to now see every car on the road racing to copy its black-roof aggression, but I still get looks from folks who want to know if "that's a Volvo?" Of particular note is how the interior eschewed the trend of tacking on a giant tablet screen, opting instead for a generous dash-embedded interface that is comprehensive, intuitive and instantly responsive. I also love the app-driven features like remote start and customer temperature. The reputation for reliability is well-earned and validated. In summary, the prospect of this car one day needing to be replaced fills me with anxiety because I want to drive it forever. Well done, Volve.
