(high energy rock music) (guitar music) Hi, I'm Joe Wiesenfelder with Cars.com with a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck. The 2008 is a redesign with this ridiculously large grill.
It is the heavy duty version of the F-150, which is better known heavier duty front end. It's not an independent suspension, which gives it a rougher ride, but higher capability. And our test model has the 6.4 liter power stroke turbo diesel engine. This one is extremely powerful. It can tow over 12,000 pounds and there's a lot of cooling going on here. Big inner cooler for the turbos, steering cooling, air conditioning, automatic transmission, lots of extra cooling. (guitar music) Now some of the distinguishing features on the Super Duty that you might've seen in our coverage of the F-150 for 2009 they actually originated here in the 2008 Super Duty. The step here, it makes it easier to get in. There's actually a handle too. Now just like the stair-step, which is an extremely useful feature, it's not just a gimmick. This bed extender might look like others. It's a big u-shaped piece that flips out to extend the bed. And when it's inside, it can help corral your cargo between the tailgate and the inside of the bed. This one is special because it can be split in the middle. This is the lock position, but you can also undo it like so, snap it closed and it stays tight on the inside of the box. Now, while we're talking about the features that are useful, not just gimmicky, this feature is pretty nice. It's a metal, heavy duty metal floor that you can extend forward so you can actually load things into the cabin. Now, the question is how much loading of things in the cabin are you going to do in a King Ranch version of this truck that costs almost $60,000. This truck is something of a paradox. It can do amazing things. It's extremely capable. And yet it's like a luxury car inside. It has this King Ranch treatment. It's a top trim level, really nice ranch style leather, and it's loaded with features. There's adjustable pedals, towing mirrors on this one, they go out and in, and also fold in tight, which we've used a lot just driving this around the city and everywhere else. And you can control trailer brakes with it. And there are different switches for auxiliaries that you can add. I don't know that the pickup truck market can sustain people buying really expensive luxury versions for personal use. In the end, it's hard to own a really nice vehicle on the inside like this and try and use it for real work at the same time. So if you see something like this, it's more likely to be in an F-150, a light duty version of the pickup truck. This is the kind of thing that might be an endangered species. <v Announcer>For additional information on this car or any other go to Cars.com and our blog Kicking Tires.
