(upbeat music) Hi, I'm Dave Thomas of cars.com. We're with the 2008 Nissan Rogue. This is Nissan's first entry into the ultra competitive compact SUV market. We're going to check it out. The Nissan comes in two trim levels, the S and the SL.
This is the base S so for under $20,000, you can roll off the lot in one of these. And at at 20 grand, you got quite a lot, but the most important thing is a nice interior cabin. Everything's really nice quality. All the buttons are great, good stereo, all that kind of stuff. So it's a very economical and affordable small SUV. Like you'd expect in any compact SUV, the rear cargo area does expand when the seats are folded down flat and the Nissan Rogue does it really well, just one pull of a button and they go up and down. So you can't do better than that. The Rogue doesn't have the biggest cargo area, but the gate flips up easily has plenty of room, but it's a really nice flat surface. When the seats go down, there's a little cargo compartment here in the S trim level. If you go to the SL, it's got a neat cargo compartment for groceries and things like that. The Rouge has a 170 horsepower four cylinder engine, and that's the only engine it comes with, but it's peppy enough. It's certainly agile. The CVT transmission, it actually works really well. Again, if you move up to the SL class or the SL trim level, you get shift paddles on the steering wheel to make it even a little more sporty. <v Narrator>For additional information on this car or any other go to cars.com and our blog, Kicking Tires.
