Cars.com Auto Reviews Hi, I'm bill Jackson with cars.com and we're here with the Nissan Cube and as you can see, this thing is tiny, but it's got a few surprises on it and we'll run you through some of them.
One surprise, that I actually don't like is they chose to go with a cargo door instead of the hatch that opens up part of the reason I don't like that is if you live in the city and you're parallel parking, obviously you need to leave space to get the door open. Also, if you're loading from that side see the curb, you've got multiple objects, you know you've put something in, you have to shut the door, kind of walk around, pick it up, bring it back, open the door, and put it in. Versus, if this were just a regular opening hatch, you could just grab and throw and grab and throw. It'd be a little bit quicker. It's not the end of the world, but it's why I prefer that opening hatch to a swing out door. Now, one of the kind of amazing surprises when I got in this car to drive it, is just how much room you have inside. I mean, you know, I've got the seat where I would normally have it. I don't have it run back any farther and I'm belted it in, and I mean, I almost can't reach the windshield. And so you really feel like you're in a much bigger car than you really are in when you're driving it. One last thing to keep in mind about the cube is like we've said, it's very small and it's also obviously very blocky. What that means is on a day when it's very windy, you're going to feel it moving around a lot on the highway, and it's one of those things you just want to be aware of. It's something that if you don't live in a place where you drive around the city a lot, it won't really bother you. But, if your highway commute is long, it's something you're going to want to consider. For more car related news, go to cars.com or our blog KickingTires.net.
