(upbeat music) <v Narrator>Cars.com auto review. Hi, I'm Dave Thomas of cars.com, and this is a 2010 Acura MDX. Now, it offers a lot of premium features for a pretty good price, but it comes up short on cargo and interior space.
However, the one thing people are gonna notice right away is a big change is this new nose. Whether you get the base MDX at $42,000, or you load it up to the top of the line like we have here at $55,000, they all come with the same V6 engine putting out 300 horsepower, that's plenty fast for most drivers, you're not gonna miss any power with this thing. For $42,000, you get some decent luxury features starting with heated leather seats, Bluetooth, a rear view camera, and an electronic Tilt & Telescopic steering wheel. What you really want to get though, is a technology package. For about $3,000 more, you get a navigation system and an upgraded stereo system where they have lots of extras, namely real-time traffic, updated weather, and you have an iPod integration kit that actually recognizes songs, albums, artists, all by voice, so you just hit a button here, and you can find whatever you want. The 2010 MDX is one of the first Acuras to have an upgraded navigation system, and the screen is much clearer, it's a really improved system, I'd actually recommend it now where before I wouldn't, and one of the best features is, it has real time traffic, and I commute here in Chicago, and I can tell you when it goes from red to yellow to green, it is pinpoint and really accurate. Once it goes to red, you are in stopped traffic. This year, the technology package features a new voice recognition system for the iPod, so you simply plug in your iPod or iPhone right here in the center console, and use one button on the steering wheel. (button beeping) "iPod search." <v AI>Please say the music selection command. Now, it brings up the screen where it tells you exactly what you can and can't say, and what options you have, so you hit it again and say, "Play artist Flaming Lips." <v AI>Artist, Flaming Lips. And it will bring up all the albums, playlist, songs of that artist for you. You can search by song, playlist, anything you want, it works flawlessly. I think actually, the voice recognition is a little better than Ford Sync, so it's definitely a neat feature. Where the MDX comes up a little bit short is in second and third row space. Well, I fit comfortably in the second row, and the driver's seat is exactly where I had it, I'm 5'10. When you put a kid's seat back here, and my two year old for example, well, his feet are kicking me the entire way to grandma's house, so not really optimum. The third row is even smaller, so what we wanna do is we want to look at the Buick Enclave and Lincoln MKT, two other competitors, a lot more room if you have a big family. So who should buy the MDX? Well, families with two kids who are just gonna use a third row sparingly would be perfect for it. Otherwise, anyone who's gonna get a lot of use out of this cargo area like baby boomers, golfers, people like that, because it has plenty of room. Just make sure you get the technology package with the great navigation system I showed you, and that's a lot of value for luxury crossover.
