(upbeat music) Hi, I'm Kelsey Mays for cars.com and we're here at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show checking out Mercedes updated E-Class.
Now the E-Class comes as a coupe, a convertible, a wagon, a sedan, and the big daddy of them all here, a 550 horsepower E 63 AMG. We'll tell you what's changed. A lot going on up front. Obviously the headlights now are joined, they're no longer quad headlights, which has long been a trademark for the E-Class. On the E 63, you've got a lot of bodywork going down here on the lower bumpers on the portion here that kind of visually joins both sides together. Full LED headlights are optional. Now, under the hood of the E 63 there's a twin-turbo V8, 5 1/2 liter engine good for 550 horsepower, 531 lbs-ft of torque. 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds, thanks to a new 4MATIC all wheel drive system that gets power to the ground significantly faster than last year's E 63, which took more than 4 seconds. If that's not enough power for you, you're kinda nuts. But, there is an E 63 AMG S, which has 577 horsepower, 590 lbs-ft of torque. Even more power, hits 60 in 3.5 seconds. That's very, very quick for a sedan. That's as quick as a Porsche 911 Turbo. The E 63 S has things like red painted brake calipers, optional carbon ceramic very high-performance brakes. It also comes, optionally, as a wagon, complete with Mercedes' rear-facing jump seats behind the second row for your kids. So, you know when you say Don't make daddy pull the car over, cause they're being bad for some reason? Well, now you can say Don't make daddy accelerate like crazy and pin you to your seat belts. Cause that would probably just hurt. In the E 63 you've got things like highly-bolstered sports seats, a 7-speed automatic transmission, uses this very short shifter right here. Things like partial alcantara along the steering wheel. As mentioned before, there will be a full range of E-Class models coming on sale with V6 and V8 engines. The E 63 goes on sale this summer. Stay tuned and we'll tell you how it drives. (car accelerating)
