(car engine starts and car idles) After we heard that Fiat was bringing back the 124 Spider. It was no surprise to hear that a performance oriented, Abarth version was soon to follow. Now, what makes it an Abarth? are a few things.
You got a black hood and black deck lid, as well as large scorpion badges, both fore and AFT the wheels and side skirts are also unique to Abarth models. But what really matters to the driving enthusiasts are the changes that take place under the skin. And thankfully the Abarth delivers there as well. It has Brembo brakes built in shocks, in a different front strut tower. It also gets unique tuning to the transmission suspension and steering, and the engine makes four more horsepower. grinding things out there are also a few touches on the interior as well. You get red piping on the seats, the dashboard, and red backing on the tech. There's also a unique shift knob and this button, which allows you to choose between different drive modes. But I say my favorite feature for last, a quad exhaust system, which gives the Abarth it's distinctive growl. (Engine revving) Now though we didn't get to take the Abarth out on the street. We did get to drive it around its natural environment in autocross course. Now for a performance oriented trim, the Abarth really does fit the bill. It is sharper than the other two trim levels in every way, turn in as quicker, the throttle is more responsive. And with that exhaust growl,it actually sounds the part too. now the engine in the Abarth only makes four more horsepower than the standard models. So you don't really notice that when you're out on the course. What you do notice is that the firmer suspension pays dividends and tight cornering. It holds corners much better than the standard version with less body roll and less drama. There's no denying that the Abarth is home in an environment like this on an autocross course it really is a blast to drive. However, the good news is it's not too sharp that you couldn't take it home and drive it everyday as well. (car trunk closes)
