Once upon a time when I had three kids in car seats, the Nissan Murano was one of the few mid-size SUVs that could fit all three car seats across its backseat, safely and easily, not something every car can do.
For 2025, the Nissan Murano was redesigned with a more stylish exterior and a more premium interior. Can it still fit three car seats across its back seat? Is it still a car seat champ? (soft upbeat music) Yes, in fact, it only got better at hauling car seats for 2025 with a new model having a little bit more hip room than the outgoing one, which makes it more flexible when you're installing the seats. Also, like the old model, the new one has exposed latch anchors, which make it really easy to install. For our car seat installations, I put the forward facing convertible in the middle position using the seatbelt. Since there are only two latch anchors in the outboard seats, then I install the booster behind the driver and the infant seat behind the front passenger. For all three car seats to officially fit, they must be installed correctly, so not smashed in at weird angles, and all of the connections must be tight. Also, the child in the booster must be able to reach the buckle independently so they can get in and out on their own. As you can see, all three fit correctly and safely, but it's not all great. There are a couple of things to watch out for. The first are the Murano's outboard head restraints, which are fixed and therefore less flexible than adjustable or removable ones. Car seats should be installed flush against the seat back, and a fixed head restraint can interfere and push the car seat away from the seat back. The middle spot's head restraint is removable, so the forward facing convertible fits well there. Second, the New Murano has slightly less rear passenger leg room than the old model. And while this seat fits just fine here, taller passengers in front of it might need a little more space. Nissan definitely went more premium with the Murano this year, but that doesn't change how practical it still is. Families looking for a two row SUV that can fit three car seats across the backseat should add the Murano to their list. And for more Murano coverage, visit cars.com/news. (gentle music)
