About the video

Cars.com Senior Road Test Editor Mike Hanley walks you through the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX, an even more powerful revival of the Ram 1500’s high-performance, off-road-oriented TRX trim. The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX makes its public debut.

Transcript

The Ram 1500 TRX is back in the Ram lineup for the 2027 model year. It's still powered by the supercharged 6.2 liter V8 that the truck offered before, but it's now making 777 horsepower.
This is our first chance to see the truck in person, so let's take a look at some of its distinguishing features for both performance and off-road driving. (upbeat music) The SRT TRX has 11.8 inches of ground clearance and compared with the RAM 1500 Rebel, it sits two inches higher and it's six inches wider. It's got these really flared fenders and this model has the Bloodshot Night Edition package that includes this black top upper finish with a red hood stripe down the center of the truck and splash style graphics on the side with red outline TRX badging. The TRX's supercharged V8 draws cool air from both the sides of the grill and the functional hood scoop, and it represents an 18% improvement in airflow over the outgoing TRX. And that's part of the reason it can now make 777 horsepower and that engine works with a high-capacity eight-speed automatic transmission. Leads to a zero to 60 time of 3.5 seconds, according to Ram. The SRT TRX also comes with a ton of suspension travel for high speed offroading. There's 13 inches of travel in the front suspension, 14 inches of travel at the rear suspension, and it has the Bilstein Blackhawk e2 Active Dampers that we've seen from the Ram RHO, plus you have these 18-inch wheels with 35 inch all-terrain tires. Now, even though the SRT TRX is a performance truck, it's also kind of a luxury truck too. It has this hand wrapped leather interior, there's heated ventilated and massaging front seats. There's carbon fiber accents on the dash. Convenience features like dual wireless chargers and also Harman Kardon Premium audio. The Ram SRT TRX starts at around $103,000. That's expensive, but it is around $11,000 less than its primary competitor, the Ford F-150 Raptor R. And if this is your kind of rig you'll be able to check it out at a Ram dealership near you in the second half of 2026.
