Driving Smart: Volkswagen Deals
Transcript
With Volkswagen sales underperforming the rest of the market by almost 19% since the diesel emission scandal broke, cars.com suspected there might be some deals available on gasoline-powered models, which are still being sold, unlike the diesel ones.
Are there bargains out there? The answer seems to be yes, but don't expect the sellers to shout it from the rooftops. In comparison, Volkswagen's current advertised incentives may seem a little bit modest. There's a $1,000 incentive for current Volkswagen owners, as well as some decent financing options on some models, as well as good, but not eye-popping lease deals. But a study of cars.com listings in the Los Angeles, Chicago and New York areas found that 20% of new Golf hatchbacks reflected price cuts averaging almost $1,800. A few were more than $2,000 below MSRP. When we query 10 dealers who listed sticker price, the offers did roll in. One said last year's $1,500 break was still in effect. Another cut price by $2,000, and a third by almost $2,900. So if you're looking for a break on a gas-powered Volkswagen, they are out there. You just have to ask. I'm Joe Wiesenfelder for cars.com.
