(upbeat music) Everyone knows the most miserable traffic is in Los Angeles.
I mean, didn't all those people at the beginning of "La La Land" just looked miserable? But just because you don't live on the coast, doesn't mean that you get to coast through your commute. Traffic in the US is only getting worse with the average American motorist spending 50 hours of their lives stuck in gridlock each year. In Atlanta, the number four most congested US city behind LA, New York, and San Francisco, motorists wait 71 hours in gridlock. ATL is followed by Washington DC at number six with 61 hours, Dallas at number seven with 59 hours, and Seattle and Houston at 10 and 11 with more than 50. Literally can't even with congestion? You might try moving someplace like Macon, Georgia, Little Rock, Arkansas, Knoxville, Tennessee, or Boise, Idaho, where motorists lose around 10 hours. Or Bangor, Maine or Greensboro, North Carolina with just four. But no matter where you live, everyone gets in a jam from time to time, here's some things to remember the next time you do. Health professionals urge you to keep your anxiety in check. Being late to work due to traffic will likely be forgotten about shortly after you get there. Resist the urge to constantly inch your car forward, don't crane your neck to see what's causing the problem ahead, obsessing over it won't make the cars ahead of you move any faster. Instead, relax, breathe, listen to some music or an audio book or a podcast to pass the time. Or you could try to avoid the whole mess in the first place. Download a crowd source traffic app like Waze on your smartphone, and look for the clearest route. (upbeat music)
