<v Narrator>The biggest issue for triathletes are their bikes. So we enlisted pro bike racer and Vision Quest Coaching founder Robbie Ventura to show us how it's done. Starting with removing a bike wheel. It's a two step process.
Here Robbie is opening the brake levers. He's taken the front wheel off. But the next thing you want to do after the brakes is you wanna reach down open up this quick release lever here. To remove the bike wheel. But if your lucky sometimes you don't even have to go through that trouble as he is showing us here with a Honda Element. Robbie Ventura showed us how easy it was to load a bicycle into a Honda Element. We're gonna try something a little more challenging. This is a 2007 Volkswagen GTI. It's a four door hatch back, but despite that, because of its small size it presents a problem or two loading a bike. I start by taking the wheels off. Always want to take your time doing this. No reason to rush. That's what the race is for. And I like to slide the frame in. Kinda depends, personal preference, I like to go in with the derailer first. Then finding a place for the wheels. If I have space, what I like to do is stand them up like this behind the driver and passenger seat. But since this is such a small car I really can't do that. So an option is to stand them up in here. Like this. If you do that, you want to make absolutely sure you secure them with a cord to either side. You don't want them flopping around and hitting the bike. Hope this helps and good luck at the races.
