(techno music) <v Narrator>Cars.com, Auto Review. Hi, I'm Joe Wiesenfelder, cars.com at the New York Auto Show with the Scion IQ concept. Now the IQ is actually a car in Japan. It's a Toyota there.
<v Joe>Scion is considering bringing it over here, to the states. They're the ones that are basically, more youth oriented. People who have embraced small cars before from Scion. Now the point is not, this one it's pretty far out, cause it's a concept. The point is it's about 10 feet long. It's technically a micro car. Now the reason I think this car is significant is, yesterday at the same show, GM came out with their Puma, which is basically a two seat, segway scooter in a bubble. It's, no one can take that seriously. And if you're trying to get something small and efficient, to drive in the city, this at least is a real car. <v Joe>Americans have proven that they're, willing to take a chance on a small car, in SUV traffic, with, the Smart ForTwo. Similar idea here, you actually have plenty of room in the front seat, for adults, but this one has a back seat. You're not sacrificing it like you are in the ForTwo. It's not a super roomy backseat, but it's called a three plus one. Three is the, third adult in the backseat. And then a little storage space. (Jazz music) Well, it's not just about having a backseat. It's about the ability to fold down the back seat and have some actual cargo space. Now you compare that to the Smart ForTwo. It has basically no cargo space at all. So in that car, you're basically paying a certain amount of money. You're getting decent fuel economy, but you're sacrificing a real lot. Whether the IQ would come looking like this or not, I don't know if that's really the point. I think Americans are ready, to pay less for small cars to get better efficiency. I'd like to see this thing come over. Toyota says if it were to come in any form, probably be out in about a year, at least. <v Narrator>For more car related news, go to cars.com for our blog, kickingtires.net.
