Expert 2009 Buick LaCrosse review

our expert's take

our expert's take

Vehicle Overview
Buick’s LaCrosse midsize sedan received new front-end styling last year and a new Super trim level. Supers feature a V-8 engine with fuel-saving cylinder deactivation technology. Also available in CX and CXL forms with V-6 power, the sedan competes with the Mercury Milan and Chrysler 300.

New for 2009
There are no significant changes to the 2009 Buick Lacrosse.

Exterior
Apart from the portholes on each front fender, dual exhaust tips and a small rear spoiler, the LaCrosse Super looks much like the other trims. At 198.1 inches long, it’s longer than both the Milan and the 300.
Exterior features include:

  • 16-inch aluminum wheels (standard on CX)
  • 17-inch chrome wheels (standard on CXL; optional on CX)
  • Scarlett Red paint no longer available

Interior
With a front bench seat — an uncommon offering in this class — the LaCrosse can seat up to six. A five-seat model with front bucket seats is also available. The top-of-the-line Super gets a silver-colored center stack and unique gauges. The LaCrosse has roughly the same interior volume as the Milan and is 8 cubic feet smaller than the 300.

  • Bluetooth wireless phone communication now standard
  • XM Satellite Radio
  • Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
  • Remote start
  • 16 cubic feet of trunk space
  • Split, folding rear seat available in an optional package

Under the Hood
CX and CXL trims use a 3.8-liter V-6, while the Super’s 5.3-liter V-8 can switch instantly from eight to four cylinders to save gas when full power is not needed.

  • 200-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 (CX and CXL)
  • 300-hp, 5.3-liter V-8 engine (Super)
  • Buick says the Super can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds
  • All engines team with a four-speed automatic transmission

Safety
Standard safety equipment includes:

  • Antilock brakes
  • Standard side curtain airbags
  • Electronic stability system (only on Super trim)

  • Low mileage, pristine condition and a good price

The Buick LaCrosse which we purchased from Ken's is in perfect condition with low mileage. We are very happy with our purchase. We purchased this car for our daily use, traveling to work , family transportation and general everyday use. The LaCrosse has a smooth and quiet ride. Perfect for our family.

  • Great Buy!

A perfect 1st car for my daughter. Safe, reliable , affordable! My daughter was able to buy the car outright for cash. James Meek made the process for her very easy.

  • Super Undervalued Steal

Unbelievably solid vehicle value. Excellent handling, very good and quiet ride. These Buicks require very little maintenance; things just seem to last. Parts are extremely reasonable and readily available. One of the best things is the 3.8 Liter V-6 engine. It is considered nearly "bulletproof." I've had two of these engines go 250,000 miles and still pass California's strict emissions certification. I have owned a couple LeSabres, which are the same weight, and easily deliver 23 to 27 miles per gallon. (The LeSablre had the 3800 Series II engine; The LaCrosse has the 3800 Series III, which seems to deliver the same mileage, but is more responsive and slightly smoother. ) Each of my brothers owns his own LaCrosse, and swears by it. We find it delivers better fuel economy and greater safety than somewhat smaller -- and more expensive to buy and maintain cars. Both of them live in the Inland Pacific Northwest, and find it handles snow and ice driving very easily. In sum, I am convinced these Buicks represent one of the best-kept secrets in the industry.

  • We would drive our new Buick Coast to Coast!

Our new 2009 Buick LaCrosse is everything that we were looking for in a used car. We drove a total of around 500 miles to purchase our new Buick and we would do it again. Thank you!

  • Reliable and Comfortable Cruiser

Very comfortable car, comes loaded with some nice features. Good looking, nice interior and exterior. Big leather seats, good lower back support (also heated in front). Big 3.8 liter v6 to offset the fact that it weighs around 3,500 pounds (the weight makes winter driving nicer). You're not going to win any races in this car though, as the old style 4 speed automatic is lacking in performance. Overall a great everyday car.

  • Buickso Give You A Smooth Ride

Meets my needs comfortably. I have owned Buick so for the past 10 years. They are roomy, without being too big. The are easy to drive, especially for women! I prefer cloth seats as they stay comfortable year round, and feel especially good on long drives . Sl so, I get good gas mileage.
