2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Gets Goth Makeover With Midnight Edition


Chevrolet is giving the sinister Midnight Edition treatment to a special edition of its cheapest two-row Tahoe full-size SUV, the Tahoe Custom. The Midnight Editions of its pickups (like Chevy’s Silverado) have been popular for Chevy, as has the value two-row Tahoe rolled out last year, so this brings the two bowtie favorites together. The Tahoe Custom Midnight Edition package adds 18-inch painted black wheels with fat all-terrain tires, a black grille, side steps and black bowtie badges. Chevy’s Midnight Edition will go on sale this spring.

The Midnight Edition starts at $45,995, including a $1,295 destination charge, which is more than the base price of a Tahoe Custom but still less than the three-row Tahoe LS. The urban-inspired Tahoe Custom is built on the base LS trim Chevy but with a package that cuts the price $3,800, mainly by deleting the third row and subbing painted wheels like on the Silverado Midnight Edition. In addition to cutting the price, the deletion of the back row increases cargo space behind the second row to 54 cubic feet.
Standard equipment on the Custom bowtie includes an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hot spot capability, 6,600 pounds of towing capacity, a maximum of 112 cubic feet of cargo space with the second row down, and a 355-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional, as is safety technology including a forward collision system with automatic braking.
