2024 Polestar 2 Adds More Power, Gets Up to 300 Miles of Range

Polestar is giving its Polestar 2 more power and range for the 2024 model year as the electric-vehicle brand attempts to firmly position itself in the growing EV race. The 2024 model boasts more power than ever before, with both versions benefiting from all-new electric motors.

The base model still uses a single electric motor, but it’s now rear-wheel drive instead of front and produces 299 horsepower, up from the 2023 model’s 231 hp. Polestar says this allows the 2024 model to make the sprint to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the dual-motor variant now makes a system total of 421 hp, up 13 hp from the 2023 model, and has a rear-drive bias thanks to a rebalanced drivetrain setup that is supposed to help enhance the driving experience. Polestar claims that the dual-motor version now has a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds; a separate Performance Pack further raises horsepower to 455 and cuts the 0-60 sprint down to 4.1 seconds.
In addition to the performance, Polestar also revealed that range for both 2024 Polestar 2 variants has gone up, as well. The base single-motor version now has a larger 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack that allows for up to a manufacturer-estimated 300 miles of driving range. The dual-motor variant gets an estimated 270 miles of range with its slightly smaller 78-kWh battery pack.

Minor Changes Round Out Updates
With the bulk of the changes focusing on performance and range, Polestar chose to make minor changes to the rest of the 2024 Polestar 2. The brand’s SmartZone grille panel makes its debut, with the piece housing much of the advanced safety features that come bundled in with the Polestar 2 including the front-facing camera and radar sensors.
Polestar also made updates to the Performance Pack’s 20-inch forged-alloy wheels, while the slightly smaller standard 19-inch wheels get newly optional Michelin all-season tires. Polestar 2s equipped with the Performance Pack now also get the Plus Pack, and a wireless phone charging pad is now standard on all variants.
Additionally, the dual-motor version gets the formerly optional Pilot Pack standard; the bundle includes numerous driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering, cross-traffic alert, rear collision warning mitigation, a 360-degree camera and blind spot monitoring.
Pricing and Release Date
The 2024 Polestar 2 is expected to make its way to dealerships in August. Pricing will start at $51,300.
