For better or worse, it’s not often that a safety recall rises to the top of our most popular news articles — and it’s especially notable when it’s as so-so a selleras the Jaguar I-Pace luxury electric SUV. Still, as we often say around the newsroom here in’s Chicago headquarters, people seem to like reading about electric vehicles far more than actually buying them.

The recall of the 2-model-years-old would-be Tesla Model X competitor — for an issue with the regenerative brakes and their ability to slow the car with the driver’s intended force — covers some 3,000 units, a substantial percentage of the I-Pace’s total sales, which average around 200 a month. That’s a bummer, and to add insult to (potential) injury, let’s just say a whole hell of a lot more than any of the above-cited numbers read about the brake defect. As a result, the I-Pace recall speeds straight to the top of this week’s list of most-read articles, managing to coast to a stop, at last, at No. 1.

Hot on its heels is the perennially popular Toyota RAV4. Shopping for a compact SUV? Our roundup of coverage of the 2019 RAV4 literally tells you everything you might need to know about one of the top-selling models in its class in order to make an informed purchasing decision — all in one place. (You’re welcome.)
